"Commissioners not obligated," says disgusted petitioners
Wednesday’s meeting of the Kosciusko County Area Planning Commission ended before it started with petitioners airing disgust over the lack of "enthusiasm and obligation ' exhibited by members of the commission. The regularly scheduled meeting at the county courthouse was unexpectedly cancelled due to the lack of commissioners present at the session Commission member- Vic Virgil announced to the small gathering. business today because we need five members present for a quorum to conduct business.” Os the nine members, only three were in attendance. Immediately following Virgil’s remarks, approximately 10 minutes were filled with petitioners’ reasons and complaints directed at commission members. The overriding objection of the group towards the cancellation stemmed from the fact that by law. petitioners are required to attend the meeting when
scheduled, but "the commissioners seem to feel no obligation towards the petitioners.” One petitioner suggested that a law be enacted requiring attendance of the commissioners. Another voiced opinion concerning the time of the meeting, and stated that there was a larger turnout of both petitioners and commission members when the meetings had formerly been held in the evening. The commission members present had their hands tied and could only refer to the law for the reason regarding cancellation. The commission continued this session for Wednesday, May 9, at the same time, same place and hopefully, with a few more members.
