Mrs. Impey receives U.S. Citizenship April 24
Mrs. Don J (Rowena). Impey, Wawasee Lake, received her United States Citizenship April 24. after applying two years ago. Mrs. Impey came to the United States in 1968 from London. England. Mrs. Impey originally lived in Chicago and was a secretary. After marrying Don. she moved to Wayne. 111., and then in 1977 they came to Syracuse. “I wanted to become a citizen so I could vote,” stated Mrs. Impey. “I have a daughter who is six and I want to have a say in what goes on." She doesn’t think the people in America know what they have. She mentioned she hears a lot of people downing America, “You have a choice and can go out and do something about it.” When she first came to America she was hooked on westerns and Zane Gray but has never seen a cowboy! Procedures To apply for citizenship a person needs to apply through the immigration office and fill out forms. The office then investigates the answers to see if everything is correct. The normal procedure is six months to one year.
' MICHIANA , INSURED i BONDED PREPAINTED ALUMINUM CONTINUOUS GUTTERING SERVICE 2390 Elkhart Road, Building C 533-2157
BACKGROUND ON BUSINESS I CANADA? Most Americans have only a sketchy knowledge of Canada. Do you know, for instance, if Canada is larger or smaller than the United States? Which province produces most of Canada’s steel? Which Canadian Utility has the largest power grid in North America? SflSi
Canada is larger than the United States; in fact, it’s the second largest country in the world. Ontario Hydro is the largest electrical utility in Canada and has the largest power grid in North America. Its bonds are by the government of Ontario. Sa Ontario has one of the world’s largest known reserves of uranium and is the world's largest producer of nickel.
Mrs. Impey stated the reason why her citizenship took so long was because her file was lost in Chicago. After a year of not hearing anything she wrote them and the procedures were started again after finding the papers. She also mentioned a noncitizen must live in the United States for five years before applying for citizenship. After filing she needed to go to Fort Wayne and talk to an attorney and take two. witnesses who had known her for two years and answer more questions. Some of the questions she needed to answer were: Who was the first and 16th president?- Who is the current president and vice president? What is the Bill of Rights? She also needed to prove she could write a sentence in English. On Tuesday, April 24, the day she became a citizen, she handed in her registration card and was sworn in as a citizen before a federal judge. Besides her there were 40 other people sworn in. The Impeys have three children: Heather, 16; Jeff 12; and Celia, six. They are the coowners of Wawasee Boat Company. Mrs. Impey's final comment was, “I’m glad I made it.”
Ontario manufactures 80 percent of all Canada’s steel and also produces more than half the country’s manufactured goods. Ontario accounts for almost half of Canadian investment income and grew at an annual rate of 14.7 percent between 1971 and 1975. Ontario’s population enjoys the highest standard of living in Canada, and one of the highest in the world.
