For Sue Pearson, running is the Boston Marathon
Ever wonder what it would be like to run over 26 miles in one stretch? Sue Pearson, a student teacher at Wawasee High School, was one of the lucky people to find out. She participated in the Boston Marathon last week with over 7,000 other runners. Why did she want to run in the marathon? “It’s neat,” she said. oldest marathon. I figured as long as I qualified, I might as well run.” She added, “There’s a lot of things to see there. You meet a lot of people from all over.” In order to qualify, a woman must be able to run the 26-mile stretch in three and one-half hours. Men over the age of 40 must also be able to run it in the same time. Men under the age of 40, however, must be able to finish the course in three hours. Sue qualified for the marathon when she placed second last November in a marathon at Indiana University, Bloomington.» This is the second year the student teacher has corrjpeted in the Boston Marathon. She has run in eight other marathons, including four in Fort Wayne and two in Bloomington. Sue said she thinks she finished the marathon in three hours. The final results will be posted in the next issue of the Runner's Magazine. The blond runner hails from Albion. She has been running for four years and has competed on her high school track and cross country teams as well as in college. She is a graduate of Central Noble High School.
