WOW! WHAT about this weather? Spring has finally arrived. Many farmers are finished with their plowing and some are planting corn. Area residents are beginning to work in their gardens and yards and flowers are blooming. Small green buds appear on the trees. All are indications that winter is leaving and spring is the victor once again ... we knew it would win all the time! —o— THE LIBRARY will be closed next Tuesday, May 1, to allow the librarians to attend the district meeting in South Bend. —o— LORENE SPEARMAN, former Wawasee High School track star and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spearman of r 5 Syracuse, is on the injured list at lowa State University. Lorene pulled a tendon in her foot during the Arkansas Relays on March 31. Mrs. Spearman said they are hoping Lorene will be able to run in the Drake Relays to be held in Des Moines, lowa. -oBIRTHDAYS THIS week include Rich Wuthrich and Jeffery Roose, Robert Hoerr, George Lantz, Charles Teeple and Joseph F. Beer 1, all on April 26. Thursday is also the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McClintic. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sorensen and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolferman will celebrate their wedding anniversaries on Friday. Teresa Beer and Gary Bray will celebrate their birthdays. Saturday, Apnl 28, is the birthday of Cristy Speicher and Roger Baumgartner 11. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bucher will observe their wedding anniversary on April 29. Observing their birthdays on that day will be Richard Fairchild and Mary Helene Levernier. Mr. and Mrs. George Haab and Mrs. and Mrs. Arthur (Ted) Baumgartner will celebrate their wedding anniversaries on Monday, April 30, while Tina Clouse and Betty Hamilton will observe their birthdays. May 1 is the wedding anniversary of Mr- and Mrs. Neil Olsen and the birthday of Jan Kizer and Phil Beer. "There is charm in some of the old buildings that have become somewhat run down and bricked up. Take some time and look a the skill that went into the design, the beautiful stone masonary. "Think of your families who at one time used those same buildings before you came into being. It’s just a little sad that in time, these buildings too. will pass away.” She also had these comments: "It looks like spring is here. RECEIVES CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION — Earl Oaks, an independent insurance agent, spoke to the Wawasee Kiwanis Club at their recent meeting. Oaks stated that the purpose of insurance is to protect the assets that you have and (he assets that you plan to have. Walker, Ray enrolled at Ball State
Douglas Walker and Michael C. Ray, seniors at Wawasee High School, have been accepted for admission to Ball State University. Muncie, recently. Walker, the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Walker. North Webster, plans to major in radio broadcasting and journalism while at Ball State. Ray, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ray, North Webster, will major in photography and business at Ball State. The head photographer for Wawasee’s school paper for the past two years. Ray recently won a Gold key for outstanding achievement in photography in a contest sponsored by Scholastic Magazines and Kodak. Ray’s hobbies include swimming, yard work and corresponding with pen pals in Australia and Japan. Both seniors are the hosts of “The Morning Mayors' Breakfast Club," a daily program on the high school radio station. Old age makes us wiser and more foolish. -John Ray.
