Top touring pros on the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour will return to Plymouth to compete in an established tournament with a new name, the Barth LPGA Classic, August 17-18-19. Formerly the Hoosier LPGA Classic, this year's tournament will have an increased purse of SIOO,OOO, up $40,000 from last year. The site will once again be the Plymouth Country Club. Advanced sale tickets can be purchased at pro shops and golf courses in the area. The event marks the return of last year's Hoosier Classic winner Pat Bradley to defend her title. Competing with Bradley will be virtually all of the top money winners on the growing women’s pro circuit including previous Hoosier LPGA Classic winners JoAnne Carner in 1974 and 1976, Betsy Cullen in 1975 and Debbie Austin in 1977. Major sponsor of this year s tournament is Barth, Inc., of Milford a manufacturer of motorhomes, specialized vehicles and custom van interiors. The tournament will benefit the Special Olympics program. Each year the 2.000 volunteers involved in this program furnish services for 12,000 mentally retarded citizens in the State of Indiana providing a year-round program which includes training as well as competition in track, swimming, diving, basketball, bowling, gymnastics and other sports. Preceding the actual LPGA tournament will be a Pro-Am event scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16. and two pro practice days on Tuesday, Aug. 14, and Wednesday, Aug. 15.
