A whole new kind of car

The Chevy Citation is a whole new kind of compact car and it will be on display at area show rooms this week end. There’s rack-and-pinion steering to help maneuver in and out, a full coil suspension system to help soak up bumps and keen attention was paid to quietness by the thoughtful engineering of this new Citation. It’s a compact car with 20.1 cubic feet of luggage space that’s out of sight with the rear hatchback closed and puts it at your fingertips with the hatchback open. Or, remove the luggage compartment cover, fold down the rear seat and you’re looking at 41.1 cubic feet of cargo room (30 bags of groceries) inside the four-door hatchback. The car has a standard fourcylinder engine and transmission with an EPA estimated at 24 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. It holds five adults, yet measures less than 15 feet bumper to bumper. The front-wheel drive helps pull the Citation through snow, mud and ice. Citation is a strikingly handsome car to look at. While it’s truly a compact car you’ll be astounded when you open the doors. Stretching away inside is over six feet of combined front and rear leg room. The seats are full and wide, spacious enough for five adults and the middle rear-seat passeenger, instead of sitting atop a drive shaft, sinks into soft foam cushioning. A padded acoustical ceiling arches overhead; a color-keyed, onepiece, cut-pile carpet that extends even under the front seat lies comfortably underfoot. The lower panels are undercoated for resistance to rust and corrosion. The front fenders are lined with polymer. The car has computer-selected coil springs and stabilizer bars front and rear. and a multitude of rubbercushioned mountings give an isolation from road and wind noise. # In the two-door Club Coupe one finds 56.2 inches of shoulder room, 53.7 inches of hip room, 37.3 inches of head room, 34.6 inches of leg room in the rear seat and even more hip, head and leg room up front. The 1980 Chevy Citation Club Coupe has a sloping roof line and a 12.5 cubic foot trunk. While all Citations were designed to smooth out the road, the Xll unwinds it. The Xll offers agility and sheer driving fun. It too has standard front-wheel drive, rack-and-pinion steering, stabilizer bars and four-speed overdrive transmission, and there’s an added sport-type suspension on the Xll. The car has P 205 70R-13 white-lettered steel-belted radial tires and rear spoiler, side striping, black grille and body accents, sport steering wheel and more. All standard. SEVEN OUT OF EIGHT More than seven out of eight cars built today are equipped with automatic transmission, eight-cylinder engines and radios. SEE AND BE SEEN! Among the most common reasons for rejection at vehicle inspection stations throughout the country are items affecting visibility. In some areas as high as a 50 percent rejection rate occurs on items such as lights and windshield wiper and washer systems. Experts say that headlight aiming should be checked several times ’ a year. Wiper blades should be replaced every six months.
