Pontiac introduces 1980 Phoenix

Pontiac is introducing a new front-wheel-drive automobile — Pontiac Phoenix Coupe. The car’s front-wheel drive with advanced engineering gives the car better gas mileage. The car is designed from the ground up. The front-drive traction gives you traction to pull around corners and into parking spaces with ease. The car has rack pinion steering to respond quickly. All this contributes to an improved power-to-weight ratio. There’s a bit of the rogue, a slight forward thrust to the contours, that makes the new Phoenix Coupe fun to look at. Accented by large rectangular headlamps, integrated bodycolor bumpers and a dashing application of chrome, it’s a great car to look at. But the fun starts inside. It has room and very stylish full-width seats, a

deluxe cushioned steering wheel and dense pile carpeting. The Phoenix Hatchback is fun, too. It’s new and it has five doors. Behind the sweep of those handsome Hatchback contours are hours and hours of wind tunnel tests to help minimize aerodynamic drag. It has a very exclusive Phoenix instrument panel and impressive new' sound insulation. The fold down rear seat makes way for a lot of cargo space. It can stow two 10-speed bicycles in their cartons and still have room for more. That’s 40.9 cubic feet of cargo space with excellent access. The car comes with standard four-cylinder 0-50 acceleration which is as peppy as last year’s model with a V-6. And V-6 response as good as last year’s with a 5.0 litre V-8. Completing the powertrain, a four-speed manual floor shift transmission is standard on all Phoenix models. Automatic transmission is available.
