Attendance report released
John A. Naab. curriculum coordinator for the Lakeland School Corporation released the attendance report for the third grading period. It follows: The kindergarten enrollment for all three elementary schools showed 211 students enrolled as of January 22 and 210 enrolled on March 23. A break down shows Milford Elementary with 58 students at the beginning of the grading period and 57 at the end; North Webster Elementary’s beginning enrollment was 70 with three added by the end of the enrollment period; and Syracuse Elementary started the grading period with 83 students and ended with 80. Enrollment for the elementary schools totaled 1,202 as of January 22 and 1,227 on March 23. Milford Elementary had an increase of students during this time with 249 as a beginning enrollment and 255 as an ending enrollment. North Webster Elementary increased from 373 enrolled at the beginning of the grading period to 380 for an ending enrollment. Syracuse Elementary also showed a large increase from 506 students at the beginning to 517 at the end. Also increasing was the fifth grade at Milford Junior High with 74 students on the beginning enrollment and 75 students on the ending enrollment The three junior high schools increased their enrollment by three over the 43-day period with 662 students enrolled on January 22 and 665 on March 23. Milford Junior High had a beginning enrollment of 184 students and an ending enrollment of 188 students. North Webster Junior High had 221 students enrolled at the start and 220 at the end. Syracuse Junior High stayed even at 257 students. The high school had a beginning enrollment of 940 students and an ending enrollment of 936. The junior high special education enrollment was steady at 14 while the North Central Indiana Special Education Co-op enrollment went from 17 at the beginning to 13 for the ending enrollment. Attendance The attendance percentage for the total kindergarten classes was 90.23 per cent. Milford Elementary had 91.41 per cent ; North Webster Elementary, 88.14 per cent; and Syracuse Elementary, 91.23 per cent. For the elementary schools there was a total attendance percentage of 92.41 per cent. Milford Elementary’s attendance was 93.06 per cent; North Webster* Elementary was 91.69 per bent; Syracuse Elementary had 92.30 per cent; and the fifth grade at Milford Junior High had 94.57 per cent attendance. In the junior high schools the total percentage for attendance was 93.36 per cent. Milford Junior High had the highest attendance
percentage with 95.08 per cent; North Webster Junior High with 93.20 per cent; and Syracuse Junior High with 92.25 per cent. The high school had an attendance percentage of 94.22 per cent. The attendance percentage for the junior high special education was 80.60 per cent. Total attendance percentage were: grades one through 12 were 93.24 per cent; grades kindergarten through 12, 93.03 per cent; and the corporation total attendance was 92.97 per cent. Shareholders of Northern Indiana Public Service Company re-elected James F. Purcell. Paul H. Neininger and William J. Riley, directors of Northern Indiana Public Service Company, during the utilities annual meeting of stockholders on Wednesday. April 11. Purcell, senior vice president of the company, has served as a NIPSCo director since 1968. Neininger is chairman of the board of the State and Savings Bank of Monticello and has been a member of NIPSCo’s board since 1974. Riley, chairman of the board of First National Bank of East Chicago, was first elected to the board in 1962. Other NIPSCo directors whose terms did not expire in 1979 are. Edmund A. Schroer, NIPSCo chairman, president and chief executive officer; Carl H. Elliott, president of University, Angola; lan M. Rolland, president and chief executive officer of Lincoln National. Kenneth Strieby receives JAGUBME music award Kenneth Strieby, a graduate student in music at Indiana State University from r 2 Syracuse, has been awarded the J. A. Gremelspacher University Bands Music EducatiorfAward. The award is given each year to the bandsman who shows the greatest potential as a music educator. Strieby shares the honor this year with another graduate student, David Ward. Winamac. ISU band alumni and friends established the award in 1970 to honor Gremelspacher, director of bands for 20 years, upon his retirement after 31 years on the faculty. Strieby, a graduate of Fairfield High School, is an assistant in University Bands this year.
Milford man charged with cottage burglary Francisco Moran, 27, of 2104 E. James St., Milford, was arrested on a charge of burglary (Class C felony). The warrant came from the Kosciusko County Court. Moran is charged with the burglary that occurred on January 20 at the cottage of Harold Miller. The charge is breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony. The Milford man was held at the county jail with a bond set at $2,000.
