It Happened ... In Syracuse
1 YEAR AGO. APRIL 12. 1978 The new Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in Syracuse will open the latter part of May, according to owner Herschel Wells. State police citation given for Edward Napier for assistance in thwarting bank robbery. Even though the snow is gone. Syracuse and Milford have another weather-related problem to deal with — high water. Turkey Creek is flooded in Syracuse causing high waters in Milford. The men’s opening breakfast buffet at South Shore is set for April 16. Richard Lemberg of Syracuse is exhibiting his work in Ayres downtown auditorium in Indianapolis.

Town marshal Don Enyeart has been appointed town building commissioner, to replace Ernest Buchholz who resigned due to ill health. 45 YEARS AGO, APRIL 5, 1934 Elias Wright, one of the few remaining Civil War veterans of this vicinity, will be 90 years old on April 12 and is still driving his own car. At it’s meeting Tuesday night, the town board decided to resist taxation by the state, of the Syracuse Water Corporation. Kingsley Pfingst won the Syracuse High School oratorical Contest Friday evening and will represent this school in the
county contest tomorrow in Pierceton. The annual alumni banquet was held in the Syracuse High School Saturday evening with 105 present and dinner was served by the Lutheran Ladies Aid Miss Dorothy Schaefer and Emerson Smith were united in marriage on Easter Day. Leonard Druckamiller and Lyle Byland were seen swimming in the mill race Monday. Kindergarten round-up at Syracuse on April 16
The Syracuse Elementary School wiil be having itsdannual kindergarten round-up an the school cafeteria at 7 p m Monday. April 16. All children eligible to attend kindergarten at Syracuse during the next school year should attend this round-up with their parents. The children will be enrolled at the round-up To be eligible to attend kindergarten at Syracuse in September. a child must be five years old on or before September 1 and his parents or guardian must reside in Turkey Creek Township or Pinecrest Mobile Home Court. To facilitate the enrollment of these children, parents are requested to bring the legal birth certificates to the round-up (Hospital certificates are not acceptable.) Legal birth certificates are obtainable from the health department of the county EMS report for March The Syracuse ambulance report for the month of Marcj? shows the following: There were 18 patients transported to Goshen Hospital and two to Kosciusko Community Hospital on runs made by the Emergency Medical Service team. The EMS crew also answered 10 calls where people were not transported to a hospital. The total calls for the ambulance crews was 30. Fifteen of the calls were in town and 12 calls were in the township. The total miles traveled by the ambulance to the calls was 628. In transporting patience the total miles'was 254. The in town calls mileage was 246 to the scene and 52 miles with a patient in the ambulance. The township calls totaled 382 miles'empty and 202 miles with a patient. On the 10 non-transport calls 50 miles were driven. The time involved during the month was 29 hours, 30 minutes and the average time for each call was one hour. The crew' with the most runs was crew two with five calls. The calls for the other crews were: Crew one, three; four, one call; crew two, five calls; crew six, three calls; and crew five, 11.

in which the children were born If you do not have a legal birth certificate for your child, you should send for it now At the round-up, parents and future kindergarteners will meet the school nurse, Mrs. Mary Robertson: and two kindergarten teachers, Carol Koble and Karel Hollingsworth; the principal. Robert D Hamman; and other parents and children. They will also have an opportunity to tour both kindergarten rooms informally and visit the teachers there. The children will not just be bystanders. They will be actively involved while visiting the rooms. A kindergarten census form has been sent home with all elementary students in order to determine the number of children who will be attending kindergarten classes in Syracuse in September Parents or guardians of eligible children, who did not receive one of these forms or who failed to return one to the school, should contact the school to have the form completed. Personal invitations for the round-up will be sent to those completing the census forms. If you know families with eligible children, please let them know about this round-up If you know a family with a child old enough for first grade in September, but who did not attend kindergarten this year, please have them contact the school office. Children who do not attend kindergarten should lie tested to determine their readiness.
