NIPSCo petitions to reduce customers' gas costs
HAMMOND, Ind. — Northern Indiana Public Service Company today (Wednesday. March 14. • 1979) petitioned the Public gervice Commission of Indiana for permission to reduce customers’ gas costs by $6,486,084. NIPSCO was informed by one of its five pipeline suppliers. Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, of lower purchased gas costs. Upon authorization of the Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) and approval of the Public Service Commission of Indiana, the lower gas costs will be passed on to NIPSCo customers. The utility’s average customer using gas for spaceheating and other uses (160,800 cubic feet per year* will realize a reduction of $4.25 annually or about 35 cents monthly. The utility said that at current rates and pending petitions, the average NIPSCo customer using natural gas for heating and other household purposes will pay approximately $447 per year for
Hibschmans receive leadership award
By DEB FOX Joe and Qpnna Hibschman, 71957 CR 35 Syracuse, were notified in December that they won the 1979 World Leadership Award from the Potomic Grange No. 1, located in Washington. This award gave the Hibschmans a chance to visit Washington. D C., and learn more about the workings of the federal government and the National Grange. They were chosen from a group of 13 couples who attended the National Grange Convention at Denver, Colo., last November Each couple was interviewed but the decesion was not made until the end of the year. The trip is sponsored yearly by money from a trust fund left to the Potomic Grange to use for rural leadership and for the promotion of agriculture. The Hibschmans were the sixth couple to receive this award. The purpose of this trip was to’ acquaint them with the government with hopes they will become leaders of rural America. While at Washington, D.C.. they were given a VIP tour of the White House; toured the National Grange Headquaters, where they

Batteries taken from boat Rod Bell of 212 East John, Syracuse, reported to Syracuse police Sunday afternoon of the theft of two* Crown 12-volt batteries from his Ebbtide boat. The theft occurred sometime during the winter months and was just discovered. This isn’t Leap Year but we suppose it’s all right for a girl to propose to the man of her choice.

Many historical places were also visited The couple said highlights of the trip were the meeting of Bergland and observing the government committee hearings and the House and Senate in session. They were invited to dinner one evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Scott. National Master of the Grange. Mrs. Hibschman commented they both enjoyed the trip and the fact she had “never been there before and I thought it was very interesting.’’ Her husband thought it was “intersting to see the House and Senate in session and the debating back and forth.” Mr. Hibschman is the master of Hex Grange, serves on the Benton Township Advisory Board and is president of the District II Holstein Club. He is a county Holstein Club director and an Elkhart County Dairy director. He is a member of the Indiana Holstein Association and the National Holstein Association. He served as the Elkhart County 4-H Holstein leader for 10 years, resigning in 1977. He and his wife. Donna, fire members of the Syracuse Church of God. where they are assistant Sunday School teachers and he is the assistant superintendent of Sunday School. They both are Indiana State Youth directors for the Grange and were the 1977-78 Indiana Grange Young Couple of the Year. Mrs. Hibschman is the Junior Matron for Hex Grange, vice president of the Hex Rural Homemakers Club and vice president of the Holstein Auxiliary. They have three children who attend the New Paris Elementary School. Their children are Dee Ann. 11, sixth grade. Janet, nine, third grade and Roger, eight, second grade. A dairy farmer for the past 10 years. Hibschman milks 52 head ot registered Holstein cows, has over 48 head of registered non-milking Holstein cows and farms 500 acres.

Deer-car collision A deer-car collision was investigated by Kosciusko County officers Saturday evening of last week about four miles north of North Webster on SR 13. The deer was killed when it ran into the path of an auto driven by Wilmer J. Frederick. 16 of 130 East Boston Street, Syracuse Damage to the car was set at $250. Gas taken from bus Kosciusko county officers were advised last week end of 40 gallons of gas valued at $25 was siphoned from a Cardinal Center bus while parked at the residence of Kathy Richter, r 2 Syracuse.

was not the driver of the vehicle, as the news article stated The wrecker, towing a station wagon belonging to Eby and sold to Whitacre, was involved in several accidents between Lake Wawasee and North Webster last October and was eventually stopped by law officers on CR 675E. Eby at that time did jump from the wrecker and run across a field. He was apprehended by police when attempting to cross a fence.
