The Trojans also placed 16 out of 18 wrestlers in the top four places at the West Noble invitational. Milford wrestlers 6-0

The seventh and eighth grade wrestlers at Milford Junior High School recently completed an undefeated season. The young grapplers seemed almost stingy at times, giving up only 102 team points while acquiring 339 points for themselves. The Trojans > competed in six duel meets and two invitationals. When competing at invitationals each wrestler is required to compete in three to five matches before being named champion in his weight class. Throughout the season a

Simpson, Lantz named top basketball players

The Wawasee High School varsity, junior varsity and freshman basketball teams were honored in a special recognition night Monday at the school. Carrying away top honors were the only lettermen on the varsity squad this year. Mark Simpson, senior, received three awards for his season’s efforts. He was named most valuable player and was awarded the rebound trophy and free throw percentage trophy. Mark Lantz, also a senior, was given the coaches’ award trophy. Simpson led the varsity team in points scored, rebounds and free throw shots. He had a 57.8 per cent shooting record for the year. In rebounds, Simpson averaged 14.6 per cent while on free throws, the tall senior had an average 62.6 percent. Simpson was co-captain of the squad. He was also named all area, all sectional first team and all conference. Lantz, a co-captain, also had high shooting, free throw and rebound percentage for the season. His;record is as follows: Shooting — 49.6 per cent; free throw — 62 per cent; and rebounds —11.4 per cent. Lantz was named all conference and to the all area first, team. The varsity squad, coached by Mike Jones, had an overall season record of 13-8. The Warriors lost in the sectional to Tippecanoe Valley. This was the first season for head coach Jones. The junior varsity squad, coached by Bob Long, ended the season with a 8-11 mark. Milford gymnasts defeat Fort Wayne Leo

Milford’s gymnastics team went against a tough Fort Wayne Leo team and came away the victor by a score of 69.30 to 67.15. Jill Patty placed second in tumbling with a 7.2 Sharon Bohnstedt took first on vault with a 4.75 and third in floor exercise with a 6.1.

M ichael Hernandez wins Mii I ford chess crown

This jear 126 Milford Junior High students entered the school’s chess tourney. Michael Hernandez was the school champion and Sharon Bohnstedt was runner-up. The top 14 players chosen during the two-month tourney went to Fort Wayne last Saturday, M; rch 10, to play in the Indiana State Chess tourney. The Milford students placed ninth out of 27 teams entered in the stats tourney. Mike Patty scored the highest with four wins and one loss. Tony Troup scored three victories and two losses. Jay Baumgartner, Jerry Auer. Larry Lehman and John Peterson all scored two victories.

This was the first year that Milford competed in the state chess tourney. Next year is
