Rax Roast Beef announces opening of Elkhart Restaurant

Parmerlee Enterprises, Inc. announces the opening on February 26. of their Rax Roast Beef Restaurant, located at 305 North Nappanee Street in Elkhart. The 96 seat restaurant will feature roast beef, ham and barbeque beef sandwiches. Also featured is a pick-up window and an all-you-can-eat salad bar. According' to owner C. Carroll Parmerlee, “Were going to surprise some folks with our salad bar. It s something you'd find in a swank, full-service restaurant and the price is right.” Operating on the limited menu concept to ensure efficient service, Rax is making gains by offering fast service and large food portions. “Our food is the key to making people come back. Not only are we serving good, tasty food, it's downright nutritious.” says Parmerlee. Pleads guilty to burglary charge A rural Syracuse man, Brian Lee Hewitt. 20. r 5, appeared in Kosciusko Circuit Court last Wednesday afternoon. Eeb 21 and entered a plea of guilty to burglary for his part in a break in at Syracuse Enterprises last Januarv 9. Hewitt was charged with the class C felony with being among a group which allegedly broke into the Syracuse business. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of 2-8 years and a fine of up to 10,000. He last appeared in court on February 13 at which time William Dalton II was appointed by Circuit Court Judge Gene B. Lee to act as his attorney. Others of the group, not making appearance in court to date and involved in the break-in. are Peggy' Slusher. Robin Harris and Randy Waite. In the January break-in. investigated by Syracuse police, entry was made through a south front door where a money box and money was taken, $5 from a candy box. a $25 Bradford radioclock combination and a $l5O Domount 8-track stereo. Restaurant decor featured at Rax consists of carpeted floors, upholstered individual seating and total color coordination amounting to a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. “After much research on fast food restaurants, we feel we've incorporated the best interior design features into Rax. The atmosphere is such that a businessman would not feel uncomfortable bringing a client to our restaurant for a business lunch,” noted Parmerlee. Rax, a chain of roast beef sandwich restaurants, is developed and franchised through Rax Systems. Inc., headquartered 'in Columbus. Ohio. The company has been in the restaurant business since 1963, both as a franchisee of several major chains and as a developer of the Rax Roast Beef operation. At the present time, there are 55 Rax Roast Beef Restaurants operating throughout the country. In addition, there are another 50 restaurants under construction or in the permit stager-With the opening of the Elkhart restaurant. Rax is now represented in most major Indiana metropolitan areas including Indianapolis, Fort Wayne. Kokomo. Muncie, Columbus. Lafayette, and Terre Haute, either with stores in operation or under construction. Locations in other Indiana cities are in the planning stage. Carroll Parmerlee, owner of the local Rax and a native of North Manchester, Indiana has 10 years experience in the restaurant business. Mr and Mrs. Parmerlee reside at Lake Wawasee. Car vandalized at school lot Sally Ringler, 514 West Winona, Warsaw, reported to Syracuse police last Wednesday'afternoon of vandalism to her 1977 Datsun while parked at the Syracuse Elementary School. Dents were made to car top and trunk lid.
