Mr. and Mrs. Alton Kruger to celebrate 50 th anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Kruger of North Webster will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a remarriage to be held on March 10 at the Salem Community Church. Wilmot Rev. Dave Hitchman. Winona Lake, will perform the ceremony at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The former Margaret Burns and Alton Kruger were married on March 10. 1929 at Coldwater, Mich., by Rev. Charles McKinze New officers elected by Backwater Club New officers were elected during the February 22 meeting of Backwater Friends Extension Homemakers Club. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Howard Bemish, Jr. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. Howard Bemish. Sr. The new officers are: Sara Rhoads - president Esther Rider - vice president Mama Hollar — secretary Phyllis Abbot - treasurer The meeting was opened by Dee Vanator. vice president Mrs. Bemish Jr. led group ■singing. Roll call response was. "A Game I Would Like To Play Better.” Devotions entitled, "Sunny Thoughts” were read by Mrs. Bemish. Sr. The treasurer's report was given by Phyllis Bennett Minutes of the last meeting were read by Mildred Gray. Reports were given by: Mrs. Rider, health and safety. "Your Thermometer;" Marna Hollar, garden remarks. "How To Grow Poihsettias and Citrus Trees' and Gloria Miller, citizenship. "A Visit To The Old Fort In Fort Wayne.” The lesson, "Safe Handling Os Food During A Crisis" was given by Dixie Likens. valentine gifts from secret pals were presented to several members. Dee Vanator received the door prize. An anniversary dinner is planned for April.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held at the church. Hosts for the event will be the Kruger children; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kruger, North Webster, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kruger of Warsaw and William Kruger. Franklin. Also assisting will be the Kruger’s 10 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. All friends and neighbors of the couple are invited to attend. The couple ask that gifts be omitted. Janette Bockman hostess for the Past Chiefs Janette Bockman was hostess for the February 21 meeting of North Webster Past Chiefs of the Pvthian Sisters. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Myrtle Greisinger. Plans were discussed for the convention to be held in April at Elkhart. Following the business session euchre was played. Catherine Bause placed first and Virginia Spray placed low. The door prize was presented to Effie Vanator Refreshments of cheese, crackers, perfection salad, jello and cake were served by the hostess. The March meeting will be held in the home of Thelma McCorkle. Tippy Club elects officers Roll call was answered by 18 members during the recent meeting of Tippecanoe Township Extension Homemakers Club. The ladies met in the home of Opal Esch. She was assisted by Dot Kurth and June Miller. Roll call response was. “A Favorite Cherry Recipe." Election of officers was held. Devotions were read by Mrs. Esch. A carry-in dinner was served at noon. The group voted to help a 4-H member with expenses for a trip toWashington, D.C. The lesson entitled, “Update On Spring Wardrobe” was given by Jo Henry. Catherine Bause gave a lesson on, “Cake Decorating. It was noted that Mrs. Bause, Sadie Reynolds and Ruth Mickley paid a recent visit to Hazel Cleaver at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. They presented Mrs. Cleaver with a floral arrangement from the club. Secret pal birthday gifts were distributed. Members were asked to remember that the next meeting will be held March 22 instead of the regular meeting date. Jazz Concert on March 9 Linda Hoy distributed tickets and appointed committees for the March 9 jazz concert during the recent meeting of Theta Sigma Chapter of Psi lota Xi. The sorority members met at the home of Becky Rhoads. The jazz concert will be held at Wawasee High School. Music will be presented by the Wawasee High School jazz band, varsity singers and chamber orchestra. Roll call response was, “What I Like About Winter.” The groups money making, “Cheese” project was discussed. It was reported that Wanda Luke, who recently sustained a broken wrist, is recuperating at home. Janet Allen will be hostess for the March 13 meeting. Shirley Fidler hostess for Beta Psi Chapter Shirley Fidler was hostess for the February 27 meeting of Beta Psi Chapter of Lambda Chi Omega. Money making projects were discussed. Names of potential new members were submitted for consideration. Refreshments of tuna salad, crackers, cheese and punch were served by the hostess. Chit Chat officers elected Devotions were given by Mary Lou Whitehead during the recent meeting of the Chit Chat Extension Homemakers Club. The meeting was held in the home of Mrs. George Paton. Roll call response was, “One Fact You Know About Lincoln or Washington.” The group voted to make a donation to the 4-H Foundation Leadership Training Center. The lesson, “Being Me,” was given by Doris Everson and Becky Pritchard. Election of officers was held. The new officers are: Mrs. Whitehead — president Carol Landrigan - vice president Cheryl McKinnon - secretary Mrs. Paton — treasurer. Diana Bucher will be hostess for the March meeting. Members are asked to prepare and take their favorite salad and the recipe for a Salad Exchange.

Cindy Mort, Jill Sliger named for Girls' State
Cindy Mort and Jill Sliger have been named as this year’s Girl’s State representatives from the North Webster American Legion Auxiliary. The auxiliary recently held a junior activities program. Nancy Vanator was chairman of the dinner committee. Denise Vanator and Ermal Vanator were co-chairmen for a program concerning, “Americanism.” Members of the Legions Junior WILLMANS RETURN FROM FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. Tom Willman have just returned home from a tw’o week vacation trip to Florida. They visited with Ruth Boyer and Pauline Castello, Bonita Springs; Leona Stimson, Naples, former Irish Lake resident, and Margaret Welker and Rev. and Mrs. Dwight Ritenour and family, Sebring, former Barbee Lake residents. Jaimee Smith is two years old Miss Jaimee Smith was guest of honor at a birthday party held February 25 in the home of her grandmother, Ruth Boyer, Leesburg. Jaimee was two years on February 22. Her mother, Mrs. Shirley Smith, was hostess for the event. “Happy Birthday” was sung to the honored guest and she was presented with gifts. Ice cream and birthday cake were served. Guests present were: Angie Long and Julie Brandon, Syracuse; Peggy Willman, Winona Lake; Jim Hom, Warsaw; T. L Sellers, Marion; Mike Ousley, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Willman, Bruce Trosper, Scott Ousley and Sam Willman, all of Leesburg.
Church Os Gods Missionary, Board, will be the featured speaker on March 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. He will tell about missions to Haiti, Argentina, South America and Thailand. Special music and testimony will be presented. Rev. and Mrs. Carl Wilson, resident workers from Hope Hill Childrens Home, Ky., and eight girls from the Home will be present for services on March 16.

As the citizenship report Kay Tusing gave the addresses of senators, congressmen and TV stations. The lesson on, “Food Additives” was presented by Lucy Sellers. The March meeting will be held in the home of Sherry Bleile. Mrs. Frush new Rural Neighbors club president Rural Neighbors Extension Homemakers club members met recently in the home of Mrs. Austin Hall. Election of officers was held. Those elected were: Mrs. Jerry Frush — president Mrs. Jack B. Camden - vice president Mrs. Miner - secretary Mrs. Kenneth Enders — treasurer Mrs. John T. Camden - assistant secretary-treasurer. A reading entitled, “Smile” was presented as devotions. The benefits of snow were explained by Mrs. Sylvian Stump as garden remarks. Miss Amy Stump gave the health and safety lesson. She discussed the preparation of an “Auto Survival Kit.” The lesson, “Meals In Minutes’ was given by Mrs. Lloyd Miner. Reports of two presidents council meetings were given by Mrs. Jack Camden and Mrs. John Camden. Following the business session Mrs. Miner was presented with a special gift from the club. Mrs. Miner and Fred Beyer will be married on March 16. Refreshments of cherry ice cream, cake and punch were served from a table decorated in keeping with a Valentine theme. The next meeting will be held March 29 in the home of Mrs. Frush. Auxiliary has carry in North Webster Firemen’s Auxiliary annual carry-in dinner was held recently at the fire station. Guests present included all
firemen, EMS members, drivers, and their families. There were approximately 50 persons in attendance. Tables were decorated in keeping with a Valentine theme. Marcia Conkling, auxiliary president, was chairman for the event. Karen Richardson was in charge of games for the s dults. Games for the children were conducted by Shirley Fisabaugh.
Conservation club has carry-in Tables were decorated in keeping with a Valentine theme for the recent carry-in dinner and business session held by members of Barbee Conservation Club. There were 48 persons present for the event. Bob Shafin was welcomed as a new member. The invocation was given by Dorothy Thornburg. The program was presented by club members who read poems and rhymes. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Reynolds were chairmen for the evening. They were assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Golden and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Gunkel. The next dinner and meeting is planned for March 26. Visitors are always welcome. COMMUNITY NEWS Marie Hom and Hazel Bogue were hostesses for the February 27 meeting of the Adult Bible Class. It was held in the Fellowship Room at North Webster United Methodist Church. Scott Coffin. North Webster, is a patient at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. The North Webster community World Day of Prayer service was held March 2 at North Webster Church of the Brethren The observance was participated in by 140 countries and 33 islands around the world. Mrs. Violet Stevens is now at home after being released from Millers Merry Manor. Warsaw. A special program of vocal music will be presented at‘7 p.m.. March 11. at North Webster United Methodist Church. Varner Chance is in charge of the program. An organizational and activities planning session for members of God’s Gang from North Webster Church of God was held recently. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mickley hosted the event at their home with members of the planning council and officers present. A special worship service is planned for 8 p.m.. March 28. at North Webster United Methodist Church. The sermon topic, taken from Mark 2:17, will be, “Who Are Well.” Miss Chelsea Buckmaster. Union City, Ohio, is spending several days visiting in the home of her grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Linda Silvey and Mrs. Virginia Moser, Leesburg. The Senior Citizens group at North Webster Church of God will meet on March 14 at the church. Members of Miriam Circle from North Webster United Methodist Church will meet March 12. Julie Richey will be hostess. Elizabeth Walker will serve as co-hostess. Helen Anderson will present devotions for the March 13 meeting of Lydia Circle. The ladies will meet in the home of Susie Jennings with lvalue Turner as co-hostess. Esther circle members will meet at 9;30 a m.. March 14. Jeanette Keim and Peggy Mattix will serve as hostesses. North Webster United Methodist Church Council on Ministries will meet at 8 p.m.. March 14. An old fashioned songfest was enjoyed on March 4 at North Webster United Methodist Church. -NWAsk continuance on arraignment date Melvin Woo Heng, 39, r 2 Syracuse appeared before Superior Court Judge Robert Burner last week. Heng asked his arraignment be continued on a charge of possession of marijuana, to allow sufficient time to consult with his attorney. Heng was arrested in Syracuse last week following a month-long drug investigation by Syracuse and Kosciusko County Police. His arrest followed a controlled purchase of 54 grams of marijuana. Following his arrest, a search warrant was obtained and law officers confiscated approximately three pounds of marijuana, 218 grams of a powder believed to have been cocaine, 433 grams of a substance believed to be LSD. and assorted drug related paraphernalia.
GIRLS’ STATERS — Wawasee Unit 223, American Legion Auxiliary at Syracuse, has selected Carla Darr as their delegate to Giris* State June 17-24 at Terre Haute, and Peggy Waterson, alternate. Carla, left, a junior at Wawasee High School, is a daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Tim Darr of Syracuse. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Drama Club, and served with the girl’s varsity golf team for three years. Carla lists interests in reading, cooking and golfing. She plans to continue her education after high school for a major in special education. Peggy , right, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Waterson. is also a junior at Wawasee. a member of the National Honor Society and Drama Club. She lists special interests in water skiing and swimming. Peggy plans to further her education for a major in business.
Aliens must report farmland ownership
Washington — Aliens who own or have a financial interest in more than one acre of U. S. farmland or who gross more than SI,OOO from any plot of U. S. land must now report their holdings to the Federal Government, according to regulations issued today by Secretary of Agriculture Bobßergland. Under the regulations, aliens of foreign interests who owned farmland before February 6 must report ownership by August 6; those acquiring land after February 6 must report the transfer within 90 days. Reports are made at the county office .of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in the county where the land is located. Failure to report could result in a fine of up to 25 per cent of the property’s assessed value. For purposes of this report, the department considers agricultural land as any tract of more than one acre now in agricultural, forestry or timber production. Another accident involved a vehicle driven by Ronda Hickman. 18. r 1 Syracuse. It slid out of control and hit mailboxes on CR 1200 N. about one-half mile west of Syracuse. Damages to the boxes belonging to Homer Bachtel and Ethel Hamilton, were set at SSO. with $350 to the Hickman auto.
