New weight machines installed at Syracuse

A new program has been added at Syracuse Junior High School — weight training. Weight training is the building and strengthening of muscles by lifting or moving weights. Two new weight machines have been added to the physical education program. Physical education instructors Tom Jones and Leßoy Rapp have developed exercise programs which can be used by students who wish to build-up their bodies.

The new machines are mounted against a wall. They are adjustable and can be used by students from nine years of age on up. Eighteen different exercises can be performed to strengthen the arms, shoulders, legs and back. Junior high principal Charles Haffner said the machines were added due to recent studies showing that the upper body strength of American children is not as developed as it should be.

Syracuse youth detained on shoplifting episode A 17-year-old rural Syracuse girl was detained at the Blue Bell Clothing Store, 120 South Buffalo, Warsaw, last Tuesday following an alleged shoplifting episode. The store clerk said the teen went into a dressing room with several items, however, was not carrying the items when leaving the room, and alleged a vest and pair of jeans were found in the teen’s purse. The youth was taken to Warsaw City Police station for further questioning by police and juvenile officers.
