HE WAS born, February 12, 1809. The birthplace cabin of Abraham Lincoln is now enshrined within the memorial building at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site, Hodgenville, Ky. When Dennis Hanks took his brand new cousin into his arms for the first time and the baby let out a howl, he thrust the child away and said, “Take him. He’ll never come to much. ” History proved him wrong. Today, people from throughout the world go to view the tiny cabin of Lincoln’s birth and pay their respects to the Great Emancipator. —oHAVE YOU stopped at the Chatter Box and looked at the bazaar table set up there? —o— SPEAKING OF the Chatter Box, Carl Duncan found a set of keys on Saturday and turned them in there. People who are missing keys should check this out. -O’CONNIE SMITH had a busy week last week during the grand opening festivities of her new flower shop. Persons stopped from Nappanee. Elkhart, New Paris and Syracuse as well as Milford and one visitor was from Ohio. Mrs. Smith said she enjoyed meeting 'the paper’ gals who stopped on their lunch hour. One day her husband, Ron, had a coffee for the bus drivers and other friends, including Ron and Steve Schwartz, from the coffee shop. Some of these men had helped set up the floral refrigerator. We think an ulterior motive was also present. We know he encouraged them to remember their wives with Valentine’s from the new shop. In all, some 125-150 persons visited the shop last week. —o— SUNDAY, FEB. 25, is Heart Sunday. Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Wolferman is serving as chairman of Jefferson Township and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Geller is serving as chairman of Van Buren Township. Both of these women will have crews out collecting monies for the heart fund on heart Sunday. —oALONG WITH her renewal to The M-J we received a note from Mrs. Harry B. Funk of Lebanon, Oreg. Mrs. Funk relates they have had “a little snow — usually gone in 24 hours and now rains.” January was a really dry month. Many days of cold (several in low 20’s). The month was three inches short of the annual rainfall with the snow in the mountains being many inches short. Lebanon did record the lowest of all time with six degrees. At the time she wrote her letter, it was raining and the temperatures were in the 50’s during the day and mid-40’s at night. For her friends in Milford, she relates her family is Ok and she is
