Pro slo-pitch team to Fort Wayne in '79

The Fort Wayne Pro-Softball. Inc., is the newest entry of the America Professional Slo-Pitch League. The Fort Wayne franchise .will be known as the Fort Wayne Scouts, after successful negotiations with L. F. Stells of the International Scout group division of the International Harvester Company. Both parties agreed on a three-year contract. The Fort Wayne Scouts will be NORTHWOOD GAME AT WAWASEE Wawasee will be hosting the North Wood Panthers on Friday, Feb. 9. All doors will be opened at 6 p.m. with the junior varisty game starting at 6:30 p.m. and the varsity game starting at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available to students only at the athletic office for $1 on the game day, during school hours. Tickets at the door will be $1.50. The shuttle buses will leave Milford Junior High School and North Webster Junior High School at 6:15 p.m. When boarding pay the bus driver 25 cents.

S Dick Brunk, son of S.D. and Cleo ■g Brunk, 2000 S. 15th, Goshen, was S racing along the ice with his team of g Alaskan sled dogs. g Brunk, a 1963 graduate of Goshen £ High School, was in the area visiting his parents. He owns the Cutbank g: Kennels in Fairbanks, Alaska, and has been in the Midwestern region of S the United States racing his dogs. £ The sport is the national past-time in Alaska. Brunk, himself, has been S participating in it for nine years. He S has lived in Alaska for 11 years. g He has 50 dogs in his kennels, most £ of them trained for racing. On this £ trip, 24 dogs came to race. An £ assistant, Bill Barnes, also came £ with Brunk. £ The dog racing circuit runs from £ December through April in the £ Midwestern states and Alaska. £ Brunk has been competing in races £ in northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, £ Michigan and upstate New York. Warriors in one-point victory over Valiev

By DOUG WALKER The Wawasee Warriors upped their record to 10-7 last night with a thrilling 57-56 victory over the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings. Tippecanoe Valley’s record now stands at 6-9. The Warriors jumped out in front 8-1 to open up the game and led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. Mark Simpson and Mark Lantz ran into foul problems in the second quarter and the Vikings fought back to take a 2524 lead at half-time. Wawasee scored 16 of the first 20 points in the third quarter and built a sizeable margin, leading by 11 points (44-33) asthe game headed into the final period. The fourth quarter saw Tippecanoe Valley come storming back and the lead changed hands several times before the Warriors came away with the eventual 57-56 win. Simpson led the Warriors with 18 points, followed by Lantz with a total of 15. Matt Strombeck contributed seven points and pulled off several steals, while Jay Kaiser and Mark Sumpter VANDALS BREAK AUTO WINDOWS Jim Schmucker, r 2 Milford, had parked his van along East Main Street, Warsaw, while he went into a nearby theater on Thursday evening, Feb. 1. When Schmucker returned to his van, he noticed a window was broken. Warsaw City Police Lt. Aden Moore, investigated the incident and the police believe the vandals had fired a B-B gun to break the glass. Damage to the window was set at SIQO.
