B Miller 173, S Gilbert 165 Pipes freeze, extensive damage Jeff Hamman and Gerald Wiseman, r 1 Leesburg, reported to police the main entrance door to a home at the intersection of CR 350 N and 100 E, between Leesburg and Warsaw, was opened, which allowed the pipes to freeze and cause flooding in the residence. The exact time of the incident is not known but happened sometime within the past week, according to Kosciusko County Police Lt. Richard Mikel. Between $4,500 "and $5,000 damage was estimated to the carpets, ceilings and walls which were all soaked. DANA INDUSTRIAL GROUP FORMED — Dana Corporation president. Gerald B, Mitchell, announced the formation of the Dana Industrial Group to accelerate the company's growth in the industrial market. The Industrial Group is one of three separately reporting and independent corporate groups in Dana's tripod operational organization, which also includes Vehicular and Service. Mitchell named Borge R. Reimer, above, to be president of the Dana Industrial Group. Reimer was formerly senior group vice president — In-, dustrial. Dana industrial sales for the fiscal year ending August 31. 1978, were $423 million, representing 1» per cent of Dana's total sales of $2.25 billion. According to Reimer. “The impact of Dana's commitment to industrial growth is illustrated by the fact that in 1972, only 6 per cent of $52 million of corporate sales were in the industrial market. We believe that by reorganizing our operations w ithin the Industrial Group along the lines of technological disciplines — mechanical, electrical and fluid power — we shall further increase our growth and improve our service to this expanding market.” Dana's objective is to achieve relative sales balance among its three groups, with 30 per cent of its total sales represented by the Industrial Group. 30 per cent by the Service Group, and 40 per cent by the Vehicular Group. $ 2,200 damage as car-truck collide on 400E A truck owned by Maple Leaf Farms Inc., Milford, received SI,OOO damage when it collided with a car operated by Billy J. Collett, 18, r 3 Warsaw. Driving the Maple Leaf Farm truck was Alphonsus J. Groninger, 41. r 1 Warsaw. The accident occurred at the intersection of CR 400E and 500 S. three miles southwest of Pierceton. Both vehicles were heading north on CR 400E. Kosciusko County Patrolman Brant Nellans estimated the damage to the Collett auto at $1,200. Two have licenses suspended by DMV Paul Hall. Jr., P.O. Box 76. Atwood and Tony M. Heiman, r 2 Warsaw, have had their driver's licenses suspended for drunken driving by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Hall was suspended from Julv 6. 1978 to September 6, 1978 Heiman is suspended from November 9. 1978 to February 7. 1979. Icy ruts blamed for accident A Leesburg man, Ronnie L. Tharp. 26. told Kosciusko County officers he was northbound on CR 225 W at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, just west of Warsaw, when his jeep went into a rut causing him to go out of control. The vehicle hit several mail boxes and four paper boxes causing $l5O damage to the boxes and approximately S4OO damage to his jeep.
No report as yet on explosion
No report has been rendered as yet on the probable cause of the explosion that completely demolished the private home oF Wanda Moser on the SyracuseWebster Road near Wawasee High School in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 6. This word comes from Michael D. Dielman, division supervisor of personnel safety and claims at the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. office at Goshen this morning. Mr Dielman was in on the preliminary investigation of the explosion in which Mrs. Moser miraculously escaped with her life, and on the several days' investigation that followed. He said an Indianapolis private investigator, named Jack Wolf, was brought in to render an impartial opinion on probable cause. Dielman said if a report

Transport of patient to Goshen Hospital. 289; to Kosciusko Community Hospital, 28; to Elkhart Hospital. 10; to other Vandalism reported at Syracuse Car Wash Several cases of vandalism were reported during the past ten days at the Syracuse Car Wash, and investigation by Syracuse police continues. Carl Reinholt, proprietor, said six windows were broken sometime during the week end of January 20-21, and that entry was attempted, but hot gained, last Friday evening in an effort to obtain coins from the money boxes. Woman arrested for Syracuse theft A Goshen woman. Dorcas Elaine Holmes. 39, was taken into custody Monday in connection with a December theft from the George Holmes residence on r 3 Syracuse. She was arrested on a Kosciusko County Court warrant and charged with criminal conversion. The woman is accused of taking a 350 Super Hawk Honda motorcycle and a Mosburg rifle on December 10 from the Holmes home. She was released on S4OO bond. Enters guilty plea Michael Allen Yoder. 19. r 1 Syracuse, when appearing before Kosciusko Superior Court Judge Robert Burner last Thursday, entered a plea of guilty to burglary in connection with a break-in of a dwelling belonging to Dr. Stephen P. Hunt at Lake Wawasee last October 17. If found guilty of the felony, a class B felony, he could receive a six to 20-year prison sentence in addition to a fine of up to SIO,OOO. Taken in the break-in was beer, a camera, money and two rifles. Yoder was arrested on December 21, and released after posting a bond of $2,500. He appeared in court Thursday with his attorney Steve Hagen of Syracuse, after appearing on January 11 requesting additional time to consult with an attorney.

Speculation followed the tragic explosion that there was a gas leak in the main near the road, and that inasmuch as the ground was frozen, gas followed the gas and or water line into the Moser home, causing the explosion. Gas also found its way into a neighboring house, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. (“Butch") Firestone and their two small children Dawn and Larry. Gas in the Firestone home was said to have reached the 60 per-cent level, but there was no explosion there. The Firestones had to evacuate their home for several days, however.

Time involved was up 99 hours. Audubon Society to visit bog The Laketon Bog will be the site for the February 4 field trip of the Tippecanoe Audubon Society. Persons wishing to participate should meet at 1:45 p.m. at the Counting House Bank Mall parking lot in Warsaw to travel to Laketon. The hike will begin at 2:30 p.m. for those wishing to meet at the bog. A hike in winter offers unique opportunities. A number of bird species winter in this area and the Audubon group works at sighting and identifying different birds. Animal tracks are also an item of study as well as other evidences of wildlife such as trails, feeding areas and winter forms of plant cover. Interested persons of all ages are welcome to participate in the Tippecanoe Audubon Society field trips. Car runs stop sign An auto driven by Wayne Ertle. Syracuse, collided with au auto driven by Michael” Yoder,, Milford, at 3:25 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24. The accident occurred at the intersection of CR 1050 N and SR 13 near Syracuse. Ertle reportedly could not stop at the stop sign at 1050 N and pulled in front of Yoder. Damage to the Yoder vehicle was estimated at $350. Pleads guilty to burglary David Stump. 22. of North Webster, pleaded guilty to burglary, a class C felony, when appearing in Kosciusko Superior Court last Thursday, in connection with the break-in at Lakeland Sanitation Service at North Webster last September 12. Stump was arrested on September 14 for public intoxication, and found in his truck were two checkbooks, some checks, an unknown amount of change and a check writer, taken from the Sanitation facility. He has been held at the county jail on $3,000 bond since November 9. If found guilty of the Class C felony, he could receive from two to eight years in prison and a fine of up to SIO,OOO.

Investigation continues in break-in, theft Syracuse police continue investigation into a break-in and theft reported last Thursday at American Industries. Discovery of the break-in was made by Phil Leach on Thursday morning when arriving for work and entry was gained through a north window of the building.
