Dr. James Daiker, director of the North Central Indiana Special Education Co-op and John Roberts, North Webster, were guest speakers at recent Wawasee Kiwanis meetings. Daiker discussed legislation guaranteeing handicapped children the right to an education and how federal funding is obtained to finance the program in our area. Types of handicapped children are those with hearing, vision, or mentally impaired disabilities. The Co-op’s job is to find these children, identify them, define their needs and then give them every chance possible to learn and develop their potentials. The Co-op covers Bremen, Lakeland, Tippecanoe Vally, Warsaw and Whitco School Corporations. In Roberts presentation, slides were shown of his six month stay in the country of Panama on an agricultural exchange programs, traditions and cultures of the people plus aided the Panamanians by teaching some of the farming knowledge he was raised with. Damage, theft at Serenade A break in at Serenade Foods, Inc., r 1 Milford, resulted in S4OO damages and the theft of tools and change over the week end. Missing from the business is assorted tools in a metal box, some change from the candy vending machine and an unknown amount of candy from the machine. Entry is beleived to have been made from a loading dock. From there the thieves ransacked two offices and damaged the vending machines in the break room area. There were tools stolen from the boiler room also. Kosciusko County Patrolmen Jeffrey Bronsing and Thomas Kitch estimated damage to the vending machines at $350 and S4O to the windows broken. Charged after striking auto A car driven by Arthur J. Gall, 47, Milford, was involved in an accident in which Vernon J. Chupp, 22, r 2 Nappanee, was ticketed for improper passing. The accident occurred at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, on SR 19 one and a half miles south of Nappanee. Kosciusko County Patrolman Brant Nellans said that Chupp attempted to pass, but lost control and struck the left side of Gall’s car. Gall’s auto received a total of SI,OOO damage and Chupp’s truck was listed at S6OO.

The Ralston Purina plant at Milford was broken into and a total of $145 damage was the result. Damage was sustained to three windows and two file cabinets. Officials at the plant told Kosciusko County Police they believe the burglary occurred Saturday evening, Jan. 20. En-
trance was gained by breaking a window and another outer door glass were broken. County Patrolman Thomas Kitch stated a hammer was used to force open the file cabinets, which damage was set at SIOO. The broken windows were valued at $45. Nothing was removed from the building.
