Custer, 59, r 1 Milford, was slightly injured after his van was hit by a train at 3:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the Van Buren St. crossing in was traveling west on Vaifßuren St. Custer complained of a pain in his right arm following the collision. He told police he saw the oncoming train as he started crossing the tracks but was unable to get his auto into reverse and was hit by the arm of the train. Custer’s van was estimated at SBOO damage to the 1978 model van. Minor damage was caused to the train. Conductor for the train was R. M. Cragg, Fort Wayne and engineer was W. A. Geiger, Auburn.

Mrs. Samuel Mohler Aug. 11.1906 —Jan. 22.1979 Death claimed Velma Doris Mohler, 72, 196 North Shore Drive, Syracuse, at 7 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Mohler had been in failing health for a number of years. Bom August 11, 1906. in Cromwell, she had lived all her life in Kosciusko and Elkhart Counties. She married Samuel Mohler on October 27, 1923. He died in 1956. She was a homemaker and seamstress and a member of Syracuse Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are three daughter, Mrs. Ernest (June) Hochstetler, Martinsville; Mrs. Keith (Naomi) Miller, Syracuse; and Mrs. Curt (Jo) Henderson, Goshen; two sons, Carol (Bud) Mohler, Millersburg; and Clair Mohler, Syracuse; 17 grandchildren; . 14 greatgrandchildren ; two brothers, Roy and James Stump, both of Kimmell; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Ola) Coy, Ligonier and Mrs. Ezra (Minnie) Shock, North Webster. Funeral services were set for 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Solomon’s Creek United Methodist Church where she was a member. Rev. Don Shelilne officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. An Eastern Star service was held Tuesday night at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Respiratory Therapy Unit of the Goshen Hospital. George Ryan June 1,1912 —Jan. 23,1979 George W. Ryan, 66, r 1 Leesburg, passed away at noon on Tuesday in Goshen Hospital following an illness of several years. Born at Portland on June 1, 1912, a son of Zachariah and Lutie Lee (Harter) Ryan and had resided in the Oswego area all of his life. His marriage to Linda Vanderpool took place in 1938 and she preceded him in death in 1970. He was formerly employed with Goshen Rubber, and attended the Oswego Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Stauffer of r 1 Leesburg; two grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; and a brother, Carl Ryan of rl Leesburg. Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse from 2-4 and 7-9 today (Wednesday) where services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Robert Chidister will officiate and interment will be in Oswego cemetery. Mrs. Mary Williams Jan. 17,1920— Jan. 22,1979 Funeral services were held this afternoon (Wednesday) for Mrs. Mary B. Williams, 59, of r 4 Syracuse. She was found dead in her home Monday morning of an apparent heart attack. A native of Nappanee, she was born January 17, 1920, and had resided in the Syracuse community for a number of years. She was a member of the Syracuse American Legion Auxiliary and last employed with Premiere Corp, in Syracuse. Surviving are a son, John Reginald (Reggie) Williams of Syracuse; four grandchildren; and two brothers, James Thomas of Nappanee and Raymond Thomas, Fort Polk, La. One sister preceded her in death. Rev. Gene Hipskind, pastor of the Nappanee Church of the Brethren, officiated, and interment was in Union cemetery.

Augsburger, a former Milford and Syracuse resident, was released from a Tempe, Arizona, hospital. He is presently at home at 2036 East Aspen Drive, Tempe, Arizona, where he spends the winter months. RICHARD HEPLER IN HOSPITAL Richard Hepler, west of Milford is presently in the Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was taken by the emergency medical service on Friday evening, Jan. 19. Mrs. Hepler said Monday his temperature was 101 degrees due to a bladder infection. He is in room 413. On January 13, Hepler returned home from a two and a half week stay in the Cleveland Clinic and Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. Births YARBROUGH, Patrick Duane Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Yarbrough, 330 Harrison Ct., Syracuse, are the parents of a son, Patrick Duane, bom on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10:02a m. in Bremen Community Hospital. Patrick ’ Duane tipped the scales at five pounds, four and one-half ounces, and measured 17 and one-half inches long. He has one sister, Jessica Robin, 21 months of age. John Longbrake Funeral services will be held Thursday for John H. Longbrake, 69, r 1 Claypool and brother of Mrs. Elza (Fern) Ball of North Webster. He had been in failing health for the past six months, and death came at 11:50 p.m. Monday in Kosciusko Community Hospital. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, he was born July 7, 1909 at Claypool, a son of Victor and Mary Myrtle (Price) Longbrake. He was a member of the Moose Lodge at Elkhart, and Eagles Lodge of Warsaw. In addition to the sister, he is survived by a brother, Raymond Longbrake of Claypool; and three nieces. One brother preceded him in death. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at McHattonWyman Funeral Home with Rev. Milbum Miller officiating. Interment will be in Palestine cemetery. Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 today (Wednesday) and until the hour of the service on Thursday. Mrs. Riley E. Miller May 17,1898—Jan. 18,1979 Mrs. Riley (Ruth) Miller, 80, 1829. Canton St., Elkhart, a sister of Lee Cory, Milford, died Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Elkhart Hospital at 10 a.m. She had been a patient since January 8. Bom in Milford on May 17,1898, she married Riley E. Miller on February 15, 1916. He died on February 19, 1958. She was a member of the First Brethren Church, Elkhart. Other survivors include three sons, Lavon C. Miller, Edwardsburg, Mich., Victor H. Miller, Bradley, Fla., and Donald E. Miller, Elkhart; eight grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren and one other brother, Noble Cory, Mishawaka. Death came at 6:45 am. on Saturday in Goshen Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two years. Born at Greene Center, Noble County, on July 6, 1889. a daughter of Noah and Margaret (Hawk) Lock, she had resided in the Noble County area most of her life. Her marriage to Layton D. Butt took place August 19, 1916, and he preceded her in death in 1968. Survivors include two sons, Fred Butt and Dale Butt, both of Syracuse; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Rev. Chester Reed officiated and interment was in Merriam Chapel cemetery at Merriam. - Elizabeth Frye April 18,1899 —Jan. 17,1979 Mrs. Elizabeth Frye, 79, r 1 Nappanee, mother of Mrs. Ada Miller, r 1 Milford, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 10:45 a.m. in the Elkhart Hospital. She had been a patient for four weeks. She was bom on April 18,1899, in LaGrange County, to Noah and Cora Glick. She was married December 24, 1917, to Noah S. Frye. He preceded her in death on June 10,1972. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Other survivors include one son, Harley Frye, LaGrange; another dauther, Mrs. Melvin (Mattie) Schmucker, r 1 Nappanee; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two brothers Noah N. Glick, Wolcottville and Harvey N. Glick, Shipshewana; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Hershberger, Shipshewana, Mrs. Esther Nelson, Fort Wayne. One son, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were at the residence of Ervin L. Hochstetler, at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 20. Bishop Amos Lehman, Herb Miller and Phineas Hochsteter, all of the Old Order Amish Church officiated. Burial was in the Weldy cemetery near Nappanee. The Wright-Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, was in charge of arrangements and the body laid in state in the home of Melvin Schmucker. She weighed six pounds, four ounces and measured 19V« inches. She has a brother, Matthew, who is five. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Erma Chambers, Milford and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Haab, Milford. Maternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sechrist, Fort Wayne. STROUPE, Mark Gregory Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Susanne Dewart) Stroupe, Bristo, Tenn., are the parents of a son, Mark Gregory, who was born December 21. Stroupes also have a daughter, Amy Christine, who is two. Milford EMS Milford’s EMS was called out three times last week. On Wednesday, Jan. 17, an elderly man was transported from Goshen hospital, where he had been a patient, to his home. The deceased was born in Kendallville on April 5, 1947 and had resided previously at Lake Wawasee and Ligonier. His marriage to the former Shirley Baker took place April 12, 1973 in Kendallville, and she survives He was a veteran of the Viet Nam war and employed with Starcraft Inc., Topeka. In addition to the widow, he is survived by one son, Tom, and one daughter, Christa, both at home; his stepfather and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shull of Topeka and a stepbrother; Jerry Shull, Albion. Rev. William Luttrull, pastor of the Ligonier United Methodist Church, will officiate and interment will be in Sparta Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ulrey Funeral Home in Ligonier after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) until service time at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Willis I. Alt Oct. 20.1920—Jan. 18,1979 Willis E. Alt, 58, Kouts, died at 12:30 am., Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso, after an extended illness. He is the father of Willis E. Alt, Warsaw, who formerly worked in the Milford Branch of the First National Bank and of James L. Alt. Rensselaer, a former pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church. Alt was born in Kouts, to David and Louisa (Genzel) Alt on October 21, 1920. He had been a lifetime resident of the area. On February 14, 1942, he married Gertrude Webb, in Knox. She survives. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, LaCrosse and a farmer. He had been a director of the Porter County Co-Op for 20 years and had served as field director 25 years of the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service. In addition to his wife and sons, other survivors are two Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Claypool, Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Todd (Evelyn) Ames, Kouts; his mother, Mrs. Louisa Alt, LaCrosse; one brother, Arthur Alt, Valparaiso; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, LaCrosse. Rev. The ambulance was called to the scene of a possible over dose on Sunday but no transportation was made because the young man refused treatment. Syracuse EMS The emergency unit transported a patient from a local doctor’s office on January 18 at 3:12p.m. to Goshen Hospital. The unit responded to a call at 11:25 a.m. on January 17 to transport a patient from a local doctor’s office to Goshen Hospital. The Syracuse EMS responded to a call at 8:30 a.m. on January 17 to Ag Best in Syracuse for an industrial accident when a worker got his fingers in a saw. He was transported to Goshen Hospital. Bill Crone of Harborside Condominiums was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital at 12:15 a.m. on January 18. The unit was dispatched at 8:07 a m. to the Fred Butt residence for a heart patient at that address. The patient was taken to Goshen Hospital. An ambulance run was made for Kathy Wright of Haviland Trailer Park, at 10:32 a m. on January 18, and she was transported to Goshen Hospital.
