Play an important role — Ladies, youth are special people in a church

Richard Brouillette trains church youth Richard Brouillette has been associate minister at the Milford Christian Church for over two years. His duties are the same as a minister’s, only his deal more closely with the church youth. Brouillette commented, “It’s a specialized field. There’s a lot of rewards as well as a ' lot of frustrations.” His primary responsibility is scheduling and planning most of the youth-related activities. He also works with many of the church committees, especially the newly formed youth committee. He said, “The goal of my ministry is for me to walk down the hall bored; because the committees can do it themselves. The idea is for them to be self-sufficient, but still need a coordinator.” Weekly Duties Some of his weekly church duties include: teaching senior high on Wednesday and Thursdays; preaching; driving the church bus on Wednesdays and Sundays; coordinate youth programs such as the youth prayer breakfast, puppet ministry and junior high pop stop; personal and hospital calling; coordinate the Wild West program; and acting as Sunday School chorister. He also has many other functions in the church. These are as follows: attend minister’s meetings; attend various clinics such as the Youth Leaders Clinic and the Kiamichi Clinic; plan youth nights; plan weekly parties, trips and activities; and teach youth camp. He said, “I train kids how to study the Bible; try to make kids active in the church. It’s a training ground for them.” Equipper He will also work with the church adults in training them to work with the youth. For this role, he calls himself an “equipper.” Brouillette feels he has ac-

complished a great deal in the church. A few of his 1978 accomplishments include: organizing a work trip to Oklahoma during the summer; organizing area youth rallies; having- his Wild West program published by Standard Publishing; and organizing a New Year’s Eve party with 103 youth attending. Does he have any future goals? “I’m never satisfied.” he said. Probably his main goal would be to involve more youth in the church, especially in the junior and senior high levels. He comments, “The idea is of Christ, a spiritual purpose; to bring kids closer to God while having fun.

Also important is building a good self image.” He added, “You have the needs of kids, but it’s not always what they want. I want the kids to know they can come to me because they know I love kids. A long, permanent relationship; that’s the best way to get along with kids.” Hammond Native Brouillette originally comes from Hammond where he served as associate minister for four years before coming to Milford. He attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He and his wife, Paulette, have three young children:, Michael, Amy and Daniel.

Sally Hansen leads women “As president of the Lutheran Church Women, it’s a helping situation by motivating others to grow* spiritually,” stated Mrs. Ron (Sally) Hansen of Syracuse. In trying to motivate those women and others in the church, she faces problems with activities in the community and school. A president’s job for the woman’s organization is to organize the year’s programs; preside at business meetings; act as a liaison between the pastor and church members. She motivates members for special growth, includes more members in programs by having members themselves provide the program and makes them as active as they can be. According to Mrs. Hansen, the women are the mainstay of the church by providing social situations and settings. Every second Sunday of the month, before the morning services, there is a social hour where members may join together and have coffee and donuts. The church women sponsor pot luck dinners, have a church cleaning day in the summer, provide funeral dinners, participate in a calling committee and work with the Sunday school classes. The women’s group outfitted the nursery with various articles. Some of the programs the Lutheran Church Women have planned are Christ centered. A few of the programs have been a personal prayer study, the Nicene Creed, a talk on how to help those who are facing death, a program on death, and concern for older people. Service projects for this year have been an adoption of Fountain View nursing home. Church youth have sledding party Last Sunday, following the evening service, 35 teenagers from the Milford Christian Church enjoyed an evening of sledding on the overpass on state road 15. Everyone present commented about the great time they had. Plans are being made for another downhill party in the near future.
