Wrestlers take third straight invitational win

The third time might be the charm, but for the Wawasee High School varsity wrestling team, it's the greatest, as the team won its third straight crown at the Goshen Wrestling Invitational. The invitational was held on Saturday. The Warriors amassed an amazing 203 points to beat out seven other teams including second place winner Fort Wayne Wayne who came away with 188. Other teams and scores included: Goshen, third with 154* 2 : Lowell, 133*2; Fort Wayne North, 117; Fairfield, 93* 2 ; Lakeland. 92* z ; and Northridge, 87. Top Winners Top winners for Wawasee were Terry Rinker. Arnold Garza. Phil Beer and Doug VanLue. Also placing were second place — Hal Hammaker, Craig Luttman and Joel Korenstra; third place — Rusty Morrison; fourth place — Jeff Glon and Larry Germonprez; fifth place — Kevin Walker and Oscar Hernandez; and sixth place — Dan Andrews. In the first round, Wawasee held a four point lead over FWW with 59. The lead was three points in round two with 158 points and then it jumped to a five point lead in round three With 175 points. In the final round, Wawasee went ahead to a 15 point lead with 203 points. FOUR-WAY FRESHMEN TOURNEY JAN. 20 Wawasee High School will be hosting the freshmen fourway basketball tourney this year on Saturday. Jan. 20. Northridge, Whitko, West Noble and Wawasee are the participating schools. The morning session games will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the second game scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. The afternoon session will begin at 1:30 a.m. (consolation) and the championship game will be played at 2:45 p.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Tickets per session are 75 cents for adults and 50 cents for students. Winter carnival featured at Mount Wawasee

J Wortinger 168. F. Church 164 ¥ vL J PRESIDENT PRO TEM — Martin K. “Chip” Edwards, was appointed president pro tempore in the Indiana Senate, recently, for the second straight year. He has been on various Senate committees from 1969 to this year. He also has been the Senate Minority Leader from 1977-1978: a delegate to the 1976 Republican National Convention; Senate Republican Caucus Chairman. 1970-1976. From 1961-1962 he has served on the Indiana Corporate Counsel: 1962-1965 on the Indiana Securities Commissioner; and from 1968 to the present time on the Indiana Senate and on the Indiana Legislative Council (pom 1969 unto the present time. Edwards is a member of the Elks Lodge; Rotary Club; YMCA; Chamber of Commerce; Sigma Chi; and Phi Delta Phi. a legal fraternity.
