Warriors avenge loss, defeat Raiders 63-52

By DOUG WALKER Mark Simpson and Mark Lantz combined for 49 points Friday night as the Wawasee Warriors defeated the Northridge Raiders, 63-52. Things did not go as well for Wawasee in the second quarter, when they suffered through a two-minute scoring drought and by half-time, the Raiders had pulled to within three at 30-27. Wawasee reeled off eight unanswered points to open up the third quarter and led by forward Lantz (who scored 16 second half points), they held a 49-42 lead going into the final period of play. The Warrior lead inCreasetFto as much as 11 points in the fourth quarter, as Wawasee came away with the eventual 63-52 victory. Bart Bowser finished behind Simpson and Lantz in Warrior scoring with six points, while Jay Kaiser, Matt Strombeck, Mark Sumpter and Mike Kissinger all contributed two. The Warriors avenged their December 16 loss to the Raiders in the Whitko Holiday Tourney, when guard Marc ' Slabaugh exploded for 24 points. Slabaugh could only manage four points against Wawasee this time, however, Wendell Troyer led the Raiders with 16 points. In junior varsity action, Northridge defeated Wawasee in a thriller. 38-36.
