New Pastor at Syracuse
Wawasee Heights Baptist Church in Syracuse has the services of a new pastor, Norman E. McVey, who originally hails from North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Rev. McVey comes to Syracuse from Ohio, where he served the past three years. He started his duties at Wawasee Heights in October, replacing Rev. James Freerksen who is presently teaching in Lynchburg, Va. A 1953 graduate of Barrington College, Barrington, Rhode Island, he graduated from Grace Seminary at Winona Lake in 1959. He has served many pastorates in and around the Kosciusko County area including four years at a Palestine Church; and seven years at the First Baptist Church of Mentone. He also served five years at Boonville. No Changes The pastor commented he is planning on continuing the same programs at the church and hopes to enlarge some of them. He said, “I believe in scripture as the word of God. I hope to have a spiritual strengthening of the church followers and an outreach to the community . " One area Rev. McVey hopes to especially work with is the youth. “We have a good going youth group.” he said, “Our youth are pretty important. They're going through a lot of pressures. " One successful youth program at the church is the AW AN A program. Rev. McVey hopes this program will grow, too, along with his pastorate. He also believes the scripture can help the youth through many of the pressures facing them today. The pastor and his wife, Shirley, have two children. They are: David, 15 and Brenda, 13. Both children attend the Elkhart Baptist Christian School. So far, the McVeys have found Syracuse to be a nice community in which to live. “We are really happy here,” said the pastor, “We have received a warm welcome from the people here. We are going to enjoy the community ."
LETS START THE NEW YEAR BY LOOKING BACK
E213 s the year and the holiday season both draw to a close, the natural thing for us to do is to look ahead to the new year, while reciting our annual vows of self-improvement. However, it might first profit us to take a backward look, and review the year that is now almost over. Try to recall the determined resolutions you made this time last year, and see how many of them

you carried out; or indeed, if any of them survived the first week. If not, then now is your chance to make a fresh start on a record of which you can be more proud one year from now. For example, you can resolve now to go to your Church regularly, if you are not already doing so. This may not cover everything, but it’s a very good place to start.

| What the New Year means to me I Pastor Norman E. McVey Wawasee Heights Baptist Church
The coming of the New Year means many S things to many people. Most all of us, as we think of gb the coming year, are wondering what the year will have in store for us. Will it be a good year or will it H| be a difficult year for us? I The New Year then, leads us to face the fact of | the UNCERTAINTIES, yea even the brevity of life, j We simply do not know what joys or sorrows await | us this coming year, or even if we shall see the ' dawning of a new day. We may foretell the weather ||||® and seasons, but not the changing of events that shape our lives. A noted physicist once said that because of the atomic and nuclear weapons that “we live at the edge of mystery.” These uncertainties that all mankind faces have caused men to fear, and have brought society to the place of seeming despair, as men have sought in their own wisdom for the answers to the complex problems facing the world, only to find that man is unable to provide the answers to life's needs. As I think of the New Year with all of its UNH CERTAINTIES, I thank God for the CERU TAINTIES of life which I have, and that all men w can have through a personal faith in Jesus Christ as S Savior and Lord of life. Amidst these changing
