1 YEAR AGO. DEC. 21.1977 Members of the Ladies of the Round Table, Syracuse, were entertained with a program on Christmas at their December 12 holiday dinner and Christmas party held in the home of Nancy Nelson. The Wawasee Warriors were edged out of a victory in the finals by the Northridge Raiders, in the four-way basketball tourney, held at Northridge last Saturday. Considerable discussion arose last night (Tuesday) by members of the Syracuse Town Board concerning the new water treatment plant and how it isn t working up to its capacity, due possibly to an engineer mistake. Students and faculty of the Wawasee High School raised approximately $2,430, in the last five school days for the WOWO Penny Pitch. Teresa Carpenter captured two of the four top swimming awards during the recognition program Monday night.
Rudolph with his little red nose aglow, on the go 4 By CHARLES MARTIN RANEY Lake Wawasee It is the time of year when the ark of the sun has started to go, away down low The North wind has started to blow, and whistle so, freezing hard the little frosty man made of snow, from head to toe From the North this time of year, you may start to hear, ho ho ho and see Rudolph in the lead with his little red nose aglow Yes, yes, yes, heard and seen, among the big Christmas pines a pretty green, will be Rudolph with his little red nose aglow, on the go, with Santa in a heavy sleigh, under way, a flying, low, with oh so many presents all a riding just so, with Santa arriving right on time, and starting to rhyme, soon starting to croon, singing and dancing his favorite Christmas tune, Jingle Bell Rock, and filling every sock, resting a bit below the mistle toe, asking Rudolph with his little red nose aglow, if they all will be ready soon, when he starts to croon, his homeward tune, ho ho ho, up up up, and away we go, with Rudolph tellincj Santa, you know, on through the snow, I'll go, running hard and fast as all my sore, little four, will, over every hill, for when I tire a bit, Santa, I know, from the snow, you will, over every hill, try to hit me lightly with a snow ball you throw, at the little silver bell on my toe, I'll be headed for the North Pole with my little red nose aglow, on the go, a flying low.

The official population of the town of Syracuse, based on the April 1. 1970 census, is 2.059. according to Syracuse town attorney Robert Reed. Lakeland Youth Center director Clark Exmeyer accepted a check in the amount of $225 Saturday from Mrs. William Brammer of Syracuse, who represented the 1972-73 afternoon bridge-o-rama.
Forks receives suspended sentence Gail Conrad Forks, 22, r 1 Leesburg, was sentenced to three years in prison, which was suspended by Superior Court Judge Robert Burner, placing him on probation and charging a fine of SSO. The sentence was given in Superior Court Thursday, Dec. 14. Forks was found guilty of stealing SSOO in cash from Jim Adams, r 2 Akron, on October 8, when Forks was working as a delivery man. In a plea bargain between Forks and Prosecuting Attorney Michael Valentine a second charge of theft was dropped. Charges dropped against Syracusean Seven charges against Arden D. Baker, 22, of r 1 Pinecrest, Syracuse, were dropped last Wednesday in. Elkhart County Court, Goshen division, due to the arresting officer not appearing. Baker had been charged with resisting law enforcement, two counts of disregarding a stop sign, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure of vehicle inspection and registration; and reckless driving.

At Ligonier, Friday, two men on the Ligonier basketball team, working as pivot men could not be stopped, and in con sequence, Syracuse High School lost another game; score. 28 to 20 Last Saturday morning special services of rededication of the Church of the Brethren were held with Bishop Krieder of Elkhart delivering the sermon Thirty members of the Willing Workers class of the Bethany Sunday School met Friday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs. Bert Neff. The evening was spent enjoying games and taffy pulling.
