O Come Let Us Adore Him, 0 Come Let Us Adore Him, 0 Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ The Lord. " So begins one of the more popular Christmas carols heralding the birth of the Christ Child. Since the third century, celebrations marking the birth of Christ have been held throughout the world. Churches in the Lakeland area are preparing to celebrate the birthday of the Christ Child. The following are some of the planned activities and observances: Syracuse Area Solomon’s Creek United Methodist Church — A special Christmas program will be held during the regular 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service on December 24. At 7 p.m. the same day, there will be a candlelight service and program by the Sunday School groups. Church of the Nazarene — A Christmas program will be held Sunday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. This will be an open house and songfest. Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church — Will hold its traditional Christmas pageant, “The Angel’s Story,” presented by the church school at 7 p.m. December 17. A Christmas Eve candlelight ceremony will be held from 11:15 p.m. to just past midnight. Church member writes play Syracuse United Pentecostal Church — An open house will be held during Sunday School classes on December 17. On Christmas Eve, a Christmas program is scheduled during the regular worship service at 10 a.m. And. at 6 p.m., a Christmas play, “The Second Best Christmas,”. written by Pam Porter will be presented. Calvary Lutheran Church, Cromweli — The Dorcas Society is sponsoring a family night at the church December 13 at 6:30

On Christmas Eve, worship services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Grace Lutheran Church, Syracuse — On December 13, at 7:30 p.m., the Lutheran Church women will be meeting at the church. The program, “The Families of Faith at Christmas,” will be offered. On Sunday, Dec. 17, at 9 am., the annual congregation meeting will be held. On Christmas Eve, worship services will be offered at 11 p.m. with guest organist Rick Moore. (EDITOR’S NOTE: Both Lutheran Christmas Eve services will include scripture readings, carol singing, preaching by Steve Archer and a candle lighting ceremony.) Wawasee Heights Baptist — Will have a Sunday School program during the regular Sunday School classes December 24. A carry-in dinner is scheduled at noon December 24 followed by a special service at 2 p.m. Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church — A special liturgy and music observance will be held at midnight Christmas Eve followed by a service. Special Christmas masses will be held December 25 at 7:15a.m. and 10:45a.m. Wawasee Episcopal Center — A Christmas Eve service is scheduled for 5 p.m. December 25. A Eucharist will be offered at 11 p.m. Christmas Eve. Church of the Brethren — Will hold a Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. entitled, “The Festival of Carols.” Grace Bible Church — Will have fellowship all Christmas Day. Calvary United Methodist Church — The annual Christmas Concert has been set for 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. The program will be presented by the Chancel Choir. A candlelight service will be held 11 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24. Zion Chapel United Brethren — The Women’s Missionary Association of the church will hold its Christmas Party at the House of Friendship on December 15. Special Christmas music and a program will be presented at the 10 a.m. worship hour Sunday, Dec. 17.
Milford Area Milford United Methodist Church — The UM women will hold a Christmas meeting December 14 at 7:30 p.m. On December 17, starting at 6 p.m., the congregation will be caroling in the Milford area, followed by refreshments served by the men of the church. A Christmas Eve candlelight worship service will be held at 11 p.m., December 24. A Christmas service is also scheduled for 10:30 am. December 25. Old fashioned Christmas Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren — The Circle Hands group will be making fruit baskets December 19 .and will take them to area places December 24 while caroling. In observance of its 100th anniversary, the church will celebrate an old fashioned Christmas Sunday, Dec. 24, with members dressing in old fashioned garb. Hastings United Methodist Church — The Christmas program, “What Is Christmas?” will be held December 22 at 7 p.m. followed by a candlelight service. Regular church services will be held December 24. Bethel Church of the Brethren — Church members will carol in the Milford area December 17 after 6:30 p.m. A Puerto Rican Festival is scheduled afterwards at 7:30 p.m. Children are collecting soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes to send to Puerto Rico. A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. December 24. Milford Christian Church — December 17, the youth choir will sing Christmas carols and present a dramatization starting at 6:30 p.m. It will be followed by the adult choir performing, “King of Kings,” by John Peterson. Bethany Churdh of the Brethren — The church youth are sponsoring caroling December 17 at 6:30 p.m. The choir will present a cantata on Sunday, Dec. 24, at 9:30 a.m. The “Carol of Christmas” by John W.

Dec. 17. at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Mary and Joseph are being played by Sheila Poe and Matt Hill. David Hill and Larry McCreary are wise men while Billy Poe and Richard McCreary play shepherds. The guardian angel is Crystal Drake. Other angels include Karen Drake, Mandy Farber. Carrie Farber and Jeremiah Anglin. Cathy Truex is in charge of the program. The church choir will also be performing.
'Jesus is Loving' theme for WMS
The Women’s Missionary Society of the First Brethren Church, Milford, met with Mrs. Ronald Brown, Thursday evening, Dec. 7, in her home. Mrs. Herbert Stump presided over the business meeting. The lesson on "Jesus is Loving,” was givin by Mrs. Glen Bixler. The theme song: “I Would be Like Jesus” was sung by the group. Ephesians 5:2 and II Timothy 2:15 was used as the scripture. In preparing for Christ’s birth, Mrs. Bixler used the practice of Advent for each Sunday before Christmas and the fifth symbolizing the birth of Christ, closing with prayer. A cash donation was taken to be given to the Flora Nursing Home.

Flora, for Christmas presents for the patients. A number of Christmas Carols were sung by those attending. Refreshments were served by the hostesses. Mrs. Brow’n, Mrs. Bixler and Mrs. Herman Miller in keeping with the Christmas theme. The table was decorated with small decorated cakes, mints and nuts. Mrs. Bixler and Mrs. Miller poured the punch and coffee. Guests at the meeting were Mrs. John Rassi, Lois McMillian, Helen Funk and Julia Rhodes.
