Deficiency payment rates announced for 78
WASHINGTON - Eligible wheat farmers will receive government deficiency payments of 52 cents per bushel on their 1978 crop for a total estimated payment of around $620 million according to Ray Fitzgerald, Administrator of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He said payment checks will be issued through the county ASCS offices beginning December 15 and will contribute substantially to the farm economy in the wheat and barley producing states. Deficiency payments are made to farmers who participated in federal crop programs in order to raise their incomes when prices fall below target levels. Fitzgerald also announced revised national program aceages of 58.8 million acres for wheat. The allocation factor for determining deficiency payments for wheat is 100 per cent meaning that eligible farms will receive payment for all the acreage planted. National program acreage

(NPA) represents the number of acres of a crop needed to meet estimated demand and assure desirable carryover levels. The allocation factor is the NPA for the crop divided by the harvested acreage. The deficiency payment rate is calculated on the difference between the per bushel “target” price ($3.40 wheat) and the higher of either the national loan rate ($2.35 wheat) or the average price received by farmers during the first five months of the marketing year ($2.88 wheat). The five-month period is June through October. Since the average market price was higher than the loan rate, this figure will be used to compute payments. Thus, the $2.88 price received is subtracted from the target price of $3.40 to arrive at the payment rate of 52 cents. Corn and grain sorghum payments will be made in April as the first five months of the marketing year for these grains ends February 28 and the data to compute payment will not be available until the end of March.
ha» increased substantially over last year’s record year,” said Gilliland, “with service made available to more than 100,000 transferring families in the United States. This growth reflects the expansion of corporate transfer activity in the U.S., as well as a greater awareness and need for the professional relocation services that RELO has to offer transferees throughout the U.S. and overseas. According to Gilliland, RELO’s more than 26,000 sales associates serve in excess of 10,000 communities in the U.S. and overseas. To better serve this growing number of transferees, the most up-to-date service techniques are the subject of continuing educational conferences sponsored by RELO for its members.” “Larry Nellans, Inc., Realtors, with RELO, offers the efficient, personalized service that today’s transferring families require, and we want to assure them that we can help them move as smoothly, comfortably and profitably as possible,” stated Gilliland.
