Rural Neighbors meet in Camden home

Rural Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club members met November 30 in the home of Mrs. Jack Camden. Devotions entitled, “Grass Roots” were read by Carolyn Anders. Roll call response was, “How much pumkin pie I ate for Thanksgiving.” Mrs. John Camden was in charge of the business session. She reported on the Homemakers International Day held recently. It was announced that Mrs. Jack Camden is in charge of purchasing Christmas gifts for mental patients. Mrs. Jerry Frush is chairman of the upcoming Christmas party. It will be held December 12 at a

local restaurant. A gift exchange is planned. Items for the club money making project were distributed by Mrs. Austin Hull, treasurer. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Jack Camden. Raising onions in Indiana was discussed by Mrs. Lloyd Miner as the cultural arts lesson. Mrs. Hollis Stump told how to preserve carrots all winter by leaving them in the ground. The health and safety lesson, “Laughter For Better Health” was given by Miss Amy Stump. The lesson, “How To Be A Gracious Hostess” was given by Mrs. Frush and Mrs. Jack Camden.

Miss Bernadene Camden was a guest. She told about her 4H work and activities. The January meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. John Camden. Country Neighbors list ideas, plan Christmas party Devotions were given by Sherry Andres during the recent meeting of Country Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club. She read a poem about, “Thanksgiving.” The meeting was held in the home of Monica Braman. It was followed by self and group evaluation and discussion. /It was announced the club Christmas dinner party would be held December 2 at a local restaurant. Following dinner the group will adjourn to the home of Mrs. Tusing. Theta Sigmas hold work night A work night was held and plans finalized for the December 2 North Webster Community Christmas bazaar by members of Theta Sigma Chapter of Psi lota Xi Sorority. The ladies met November 28 in the home of Mary Stackhouse with approximately 16 members present. It was announced that a Christmas party will be held in December at Tippecanoe Country Club. A special program is planned. Members of the Christmas party planning committee are Wanda Luke, Cathy White and Connie Bailey. The next regular meeting will be held December 9 in the home of Becky Rhoades. Beta Psis plan dinner Beta Psi Chapter of Lambda Chi Omega sorority anniversary dinner party was held November 28 in Columbia City. Barbara Fiddler was chairman for the anniversary party. A Christmas party is planned for December 19 in a local restaurant with Betty Bowen as chairman. The names of Secret Rose Sisters will be revealed during the Christmas gift exchange. Golden Aprils hold yule party Jane Demske was hostess for the November 28 Christmas party and meeting of Golden April Extension Homemakers Club. A gift exchange was enjoyed. Secret pal names were revealed and new secret pal names drawn. During the short business session reports were given of, “The Use of Garlic”, Mickey Mouse’s Birthday Party” and, “Winter Care of House Plants. ” Each member took a holiday snack to be served as part of the refreshments. The serving table featured a Christmas tree centerpiece decorated with homemade ornaments. Kathy Hamilton was welcomed as a new member. Following the business session games were played for white elephant items. The next regular meeting is scheduled for January. It will be held in the home of Ava Borders.

Legion Auxiliary party to be held this evening

North Webster American Legion Auxiliary’s annual Christmas dinner party is being held today (Wednesday) in a local restaurant. A salad bar will be served starting at 7:30 p.m. A gift exchange is planned. Kay Lowe is chairman for the event. Mrs. Jim Miller and Ellender Christmas Eve service at UM A Christmas Eve family service and children’s program will be presented at 7 p.m., Dec. 24, at North Webster United Methodist Church. A reception will be held following the program. Those attending are asked to take cookies. Cocoa and punch will be provided. Jill Davis honored at bridal shower Jill Davis was guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower given November 28 in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Davis, Barbee Lake. Kathy Chase, Warsaw, and Ann Hiatt, Muncie, were hostesses for the party. The gift and serving tables were decorated with the bride’s chosen colors of blue and white. There were approximately 20 persons present. Miss Davis and James Brown, Leesburg, will be married December 9 in North Webster United Methodist Church. Herbert Georges home from England Rev. and Mrs. Herbert George, Epworth Forest, have just returned home from a three week sight seeing and vacation trip to England and Ireland. On November 1 they were present at the reopening of the Wesley Chapel in London, England. They visited with friends in Northern Ireland. North Webster merchants ready for Christmas If you thought Christmas savings were only available at the North Pole, guess again. The merchants in North Webster are saying it’s better to shop at home this Christmas season. From now until December 25, North Webster stores will be offering Yuletime gifts at holiday savings. Some merchants will even be giving away free Christmas gifts to show they have the holiday spirit.

McGinnis are assisting with preparations. The group is finalizing plans to send Christmas gifts to an orphan at the Soldiers and Sailors home at Knightstown. Christmas gifts are also being sent to the VA Hospital at Marion and to the Adopted Patient at the VA Hospital, Fort Wayne. COMMUNITY NEWS The Nov. 27 meeting of North Webster Pythian Sisters was cancelled due to inclement weather. The next meeting is scheduled for December 11, weather permitting. The King’s Exchange Board will meet at 4 p.m., December 12, in the pastor's study at North Webster United Methodist Church. Special music will be provided by the choir during the 11 p.m. Candlelight Service to be held December 24 in North Webster United Methodist Church. Linda Stookey and Mary Stackhouse are in charge «of rehearsals for the Children’s Choir at North Webster United Methodist Church. Any parent wishing more information should call one of these women. North Webster Church of God Senior Citizens group will meet at 11:30 a.m., December 13. The laches at North Webster Church of God are planning a salad supper for December 7. Those attending are asked to take their favorite salad, a pad and pencil, and a friend. Mrs. Robert Hamman of Syracuse will present a program of Christmas ideas. A prayer vigil will be held December 14 at North Webster Church of God. The unbroken prayer chain will continue for 24 hours for the needs of missionaries and neighbors. A Christmas party will be held December 17 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Zurcher by the Junior High Youth from North Webster Church of God. A Watch Night party is planned for December 31 at North Webster Church of God. —NW— Minor damage results in backing accident Milford Marshal David Hobbs reported that Barbara A. Place, 41, Milford was parked in an angle, downtown Milford and was backing out of the parking space when her auto was hit by a vehicle driven by Arthur F. Wise, 65, also of Milford. The Wise auto, was southbound on Main St., and hit the right rear corner of the Place vehicle. The accident happened at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. Damage to the Place vehicle was set at SIOO and S3O was set to the Wise car. *5,000 truck fire at Syracuse Two runs were made by members of the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department on Monday, the first for a truck fire, and the second proved to be a false alarm at Augsburger’s Super Valu in Syracuse at 9:27 p.m. The first call was received at 1:27 p.m. on SR 8 about one and one-half miles east of SR 13 for a truck fire causing an estimated $5,000 loss. The truck was owned by Roy Custer and Sons and firemen speculated the fire was caused by a broken fuel line or flooding of a carburetor.

Butch Sterling arrested in stabbing incident

Judy Johnson, r 5 Syracuse, was treated and released from Kosciusko Community Hospital Friday afternoon, Dec. 1, after suffering a knife stab wound. The Johnson woman, who lives on Peach Lane, near Dewart Lake, reported to county police she was sitting at home when a group of men, including Thomas Butch Sterling. 18, of Syracuse, entered her back door. She said Sterling tried to stab her with a steak knife, but when she moved her arms, and he only stabbed her in the right hand. She then fled to the residence of William Weathers on Hale Haven Road and county officers were contacted. County Officer Thomas Brindle led Officer Brandt Nellans. locked and the back door open After a search of the premises, no one was found. Sterling was later arrested on a charge of criminal mischief and recklessness. He is being held at the Kosciusko County jail in lieu of SI,OOO bond. The Johnson woman was transported to Kosciusko County Hospital by the Milford ambulance. The incident occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. Mailboxes damaged at Maple Leaf Ten mailboxes located at Maple Leaf Duck Farms, CR 200E Milford, were apparently damaged sometime last week by and unknown truck. Kosciusko County Police Lt. Richard Mikel stated that the mailboxes were torn down with the posts and boards removed. Lt. Mikel also said that the vehicle apparently ran off the west side of the road about 80 feet north of the mailboxes, knocking the boxes down and then coming back on the road 60 feet south of where the mailboxes were located. The vehicle used to hit the mailboxes has a windshield knocked out. Glass was found on the roadway. Estimated damage to the posts board and boxes were $125. Extensive damage in collision of three vehicles No injuries were reported, however damage was extensive in a three-vehicle chain accident at 3:55 p.m. on Thursday at SR 13 and North Harrison Street intersections in Syracuse. Syracuse police set damage at $l,lOO to a 1973 Chevrolet truck driven by Oakley Vanover, 22, r 1 Syracuse; $1,500 to a 1970 Olds driven by Sally J. Butt, 27, r 2 Syracuse; and S6OO to a 1978 Honda operated by O.A. Lambert, 57, Syracuse. The chain mishap occurred as Lambert stopped to make a left turn off SR 13 onto Harrison, and the Butt vehicle also stopped, however, Vanover failed to stop behind the Butt vehicle in time, sending the Butt car into the Lambert Honda.
