Backwater Friends meet in home of Gloria Miller

Backwater Friends Extension Homemakers Club members met November 16 in the home of Gloria Miller. Devotions were given by Edith Hoffert, co-hostess. She gave a reading. “They were thankful then, and we are thankful now.” Roll call response was, “A Christmas hint for my secret pal.” The business session was opened by Dee Vanator, vice president. told, “How To Take Care of Christmas Flowers. ” Fire prevention was the topic of Esther Rider’s health and safety report. Nina Sutton gave a reading about Edgar Eggleston as the cultural arts lesson. Guests present were Vicky Ringenberger and Jeannie Wilson. Mrs. Hollar will be hostess for the Christmas party. Webster, is now residing at Miller’s Merry Manor nursing home, Warsaw. Mrs. Brandenburg is well know in the North Webster area for her sewing projects for the needy and her many other charitable activities and endeavors. She would appreciate hearing from friends and neighbors. Ralph Bennetts return home Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett have just returned home from an extended vacation trip. They toured the Western states and visited with their son. Dan, who resides in Los Angles, Calif. After leaving California, they

toured the Southern states and visited with relatives at Tampa. Fla., before returning home. They were gone approximately one month. THANKSGIVING LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. Harry Heche and family spent Thanksgiving visiting in the home of Mrs. Heches parent s, Mr. and Mrs Harold Calkins. Wayland, Mich. They all attended a Thanksgiving day family dinner at the home of Mrs. Heche s sister, Mr. and Mrs. David Smith and family. Wayland. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mickley. Barbee Lake, attended a Thanksgiving day family dinner in the home of their daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Melburn G. Weaver and family of near Marion.

'Cake Decorating' program for Efficient Homemakers

Devotions were given by Norma Sliger during the November 16 meeting of Efficient Homemakers Club She read a poem entitled, “Thank God for Everything.” The ladies met in the home ot Sue Niles. Doris Wall assisted the hostess. The lesson on, “Cake Decorating” was given by Mrs. Wall. She gave a demonstration of cake decorating. The cake was then served as part of the refreshments in observance of

the club’s 32nd birthday anniversary. The health and safety report, “How Wise Are You About Medicine” was given by Cindy Heckaman. The use of mulches was the topic of Mrs. Sliger’s garden remarks. Vera Zurker gave the cultural arts report. She told about clearing the land in pioneer days. It was announced that gifts will be bought for mental health patients and a donation will be made to a charity project. Lois Royer will be hostess for the December Christmas party. Secret pal gifts will be exchanged. New secret pal names will be drawn The door prize was presented to Janet Minton. Stacy Davises celebrate 25th anniversary far. and Mrs. Stacy E. Davis. Jr., r 1 Warsaw, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on November 26. An open house for friends and family was held from 1 until 5 p.m. in their home. Davis and the former lona Hartleroad were married November 27. 1953 at Fort Wayne. They are the parents of two daughters. Mrs. Calvin (Roxanna) Carr. Warsaw and Jill, at home. They have two grandchildren. Conservation club elects new officers Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steiner were welcomed as new members during the November 21 meeting of Barbee Conservation club. The meeting was held at Barbee Conservation club building. There were 38 persons present for the business session and carry-in supper. Pledge to the American flag was repeated in unison. The invocation was given by Dorothy Thornburg. Election of officers was held. The new officers are: Waldo Bostel — president Charles Parrish — vice president Bob Williamson - treasurer Edna Lawson - secretary Tables were decorated in keeping with a Thanksgiving theme. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Miller were in charge of the dinner arrangements. They were assisted by Mr. and Mrs. J. Huffer. Mrs. Thornburg. Ruth Bostel and Harriet Williamson. A carry-in supper and Christmas party is planned for December 19. It will be held at Barbee Conservation Club building. A gift exchange will be held. Guests are welcome. Youths to participate in Lock-In Members of the youth group at North Webster United Methodist church will attend a Lock-In to be held December 1-2 in the Dunlap Methodist church.
