Sports Warriorette swim team third in NIC meet

In the first Girls Northern Lakes Conference swim meet held at Concord High School, Wawasee scored 175 points to place third. Wawasee placed in five of the 11 events receiving one first and four seconds. The times will stand as league records. In the 400 free relay, Wawasee placed second with the relay team of Boody Brewer, Tammy Eby, Laura Kroh and Darcee Staley. State-ranked diver Nancy Amos took first place with a 431.00 finish. Brewer’s performance landed a pair of seconds in the 50 and 100 freestyles and Kroh was in the runner-up position in the 500 freestyle. Wawasee will be concentrating

Artifact found at Tri-County

The Stephen Tracey family, 412 S. Lake Street, Syracuse, discovered an interesting artifact while visiting the Tri-County game preserve last Saturday. Kevin Tracey, 12, who had gone to the preserve with his family, was exploring the marshy area off the area where boats dock when he found a human skull, believed to be that of an Indian. Mrs. Tracey said, “the skull was pretty well intact, the edges were rigid and decayed but the eye socket and upper brow area was quite evident”. Thinking that the skull might be that of an accident victim, the Tracey’s took their find to the Syracuse police station. Ron Robinson, Syracuse chief of police, said that a number of these type of fossils have been found in the area recently. Although Robinson said he was sure the skull was not one of a recent death, he asked the Traceys if he could have an expert check it out to obtain information concerning the age of

Youth Center events

The Lakeland Youth Center, in co-operation with the Turkey Creek Conservation Club, will be presenting the Indiana Hunter Safety Education program this month, with all materials furnished free of charge. The program is for youths 12 years of age or older and they will receive certification. The program is sponsored by the Law Enforcement Division of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and leads to hunter certification fulfilling any and all hunter safety requirements for licensing throughout the United States. Sanitation truck in county mishap A Lakeland Sanitation truck driven by Ronald Stricklin, 39, r 5 Syracuse sustained $2,000 in damage in a mishap on SR 19 north of Etna Green at 2:11 p.m. on Monday Stricklin told investigating officers he moved his truck to the right for a passing vehicle and his truck went into a skid causing it to roll over into a yard owned by John Tindall.
