Lady askes if it is alright to put Hook's gives Halloween safety hints A Halloween safety message containing suggestions on safeguarding your children and children visiting your home is being distributed by all Hook’s Dependable Drug Stores according to company president J. Douglas Reeves. Observing the simple precautions listed on the hand-out could prevent the injuries that often occur during “Trick or Treat” time. “Most importantly,” the flyer states, “urge your children to wait until they return home before eating any of their treats.” Parents should check the candy to see if it’s been tampered with and throw away any unwrapped treats. Unfortunately, children have been harmed when eating treats contaminated by poison, drugs, needles or razor blades. Some tips on safeguarding your children on Halloween are as follows: A responsible adult should always be with young children during their trick or treat rounds. Trick or treat visits should be confined in their own immediate neighborhood. Children should not enter any home during their visits unless it’s the home of a relative or neighbor known to be friendly. Children should be told not to damage property, be courteous and respectful. If your child wears a mask — be sure they have an unobstructed vision. Urge children to wait until returning home to eat any of their treats. Children should wear lightcolored costumes and carry a lighted flashlight or reflective material if out after dark. Tell your children not to accept rides or go with strange older children. Safety tips for those receiving trick or treaters in their home are: Keep porchlight on Give wrapped candy only Do not invite trick or treaters into your home. If driving, use extreme caution during trick or treat hours. The flyer is available free at all 236 Hook’s stores. Syracuse residents in accident on SR 13 last Friday Barbara J.
