Cross country, tennis recognized at Wawasee

Named most valuable last night (Tuesday) at Wawasee High School were Cam Boyer, cross country and Rod Hamman, tennis. This was the first recognition night for fall athletics at Wawasee. Boyer, a junior, was also awarded low point average for the season. He was named honorary captain and received a captain’sstar. At the sectionals held last Saturday. Boyer placed 11th out of 178 runners. This past summer, he ran 1.200 miles. Cross country coach Jerry Minton said Boyer should have run close to 5.000 miles by next season. In other cross country awards, capturing the runner-up low point trophy was Brian Rosbrugh. sophomore. Rosbrugh finished ninth in sectional action and will be traveling to the regionals October 21. Rosbrugh also received additional honors at a freshmansophomore meet held yesterday at East Noble. He placed fifth out of 210 runners and earned a trophy for his efforts. Minton commented overall, his team didn't finish too poorly. “My team actually peaked at the right time, the last two to three weeks.” During the sectional, Wawasee’s five man team broke a four-year-old school record with a time of 66:32.
