At a regional seminar at Postal Forum XII, September 10-13, in Washington, John P. Doran, regional postmaster general for the 13-state central region, spoke of mailing problems with businesses and how they were solved by consultations with the postal service. In the cases Doran used, the following results have come about; an express mail custom designed for an “open and distribute” service. This was recommended when a weekly newsletter publisher received threats of cancellation of subscriptions if the newsletter wasn’t received two days after being mailed. Another case enables the postal service to design a program for overnight delivery of first-class mail. A system was developed by way of customer designed express mail that placed the mailing into post offices across the country for overnight delivery. Emphasized by Doran was the fact that the postal service wants to work with mailers to make the resources of the mail system available for specific situations.
