A son, named Chad Truman, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Swartz, r 3 Syracuse, at 5:36 p.m. Friday in Kosciusko Community Hospital. 5 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 26,1973 Kathryn Greider, r 1 Cromwell, is a new employee at the Syracuse license branch. She is a native of the North Webster community. Plans to bring back the Flotilla over the 4th of July were discussed by the SyracuseWawasee Chamber of Commerce at a luncheon meeting Thursday. The Lakeland Evening Bridge-O-Rama kickoff meeting was held Monday night at the Maxwelton Golf Club. Wawasee’s offensive and defensive squads proved very effective again as they awarded to the Goshen Redskins their second defeat of the season. Claude H. Coppes, 83, of Lake Wawasee, died Sept. 25 in his home. He lived in Nappanee for 71 years before moving to Lake Wawasee in 1960. 10 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 25,1968 Varner Chance, coordinator of fine arts in the Lakeland schools, was guest speaker for the first fall meeting of the Wednesday Afternoon Club of Syracuse. Waymond (Pete) Luttman, Syracuse United Fund chairman, named his workers at a meeting held Monday evening at the State Bank of Syracuse. Harry Van Hemert was appointed to the post of building commissioner of Syracuse when the town board met in special session Tuesday night. George Mellinger, 87, r 4, Syracuse, died Sept. 24 in his home. He lived all his life in Syracuse. The estate of the late Joseph Cornell Morgenthaler of Syracuse, who died Sept. 2, is estimated at $144,000. He was the owner of the Wawasee Bowl. 20 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 25,1958 Mr. and Mrs. John Searfoss are the parents of a nine pound son, Tony Phillip, born Sunday morning at Goshen Hospital. There was a call to Rainey’s Court on Sunday to put out a boat fire which caused an estimated $2,000 damage. A surprise birthday dinner was held Sunday, Sept. 21, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Searfoss and daughters, honoring Mrs. Searfoss’ mother and uncle, Mrs. Earl Treadway and John Stetler: Ray C. Firestone, 71, retired North Webster farmer, died Sunday at his home in Syracuse. Twenty-one antique automobiles toured four counties Sunday on. their way from South Bend to Syracuse where they congregated at the Village Antique for several hours. 45 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 28,1933 Last Thursday, fishing with minnows and trolling, “Curly” Sloan caught a bass which weighed six and three quarter pounds, near the Wawasee Slip. On Lake Wawasee, the Tavern Hotel was filled from Monday to Wednesday this week with men attending the meeting of the Indiana Bakers’ Association. Mrs. Charles Bachman, 57, former school teacher, died Tuesday evening in her home. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bobeck are announcing the birth of a son Sept. 24, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald LeCount are announcing the birth of a daughter Wednesday. Because A. W. Emerson had helped in obtaining peanuts for them and in roasting them, Committee No. 3 of the Methodist Ladies Aid and their husbands held a surprise party celebrating his birthday Monday evening.

Human Services was accepted as a member. The Bowen Center, a community health center, serves two
of the four counties that makeup ALSA Two. These counties are Marshall and Kosciusko. Saint Joseph and Elkhart Counties are
the other two counties served by Ai .SA Two. The Bowen Center brings ALSA Two’s membership up to 41. Serving as Bowen Center’s ALSA Director will be Dr. J. Alan Burdick, Director of Research and Program Development. Police report for Avgust / The Syracuse Police Department has released its activities report for the month of August. A total of 280 calls were answered by the department. Fiftyeight courtesy calls were answered and one gun permit issued. Sixteen fire and ambulance calls were assisted and 21 license branch checks were made. As far as accidents were concerned, there were 16 public and three private. On property

damage, there were 13 accidents involving 25 vehicles and $1,236 in damages. A total of three personal injury accidents occurred involving six vehicles with $725 in damages. Sixteen county and state calls were assisted. Concerning complaints, the department investigated 28 thefts involving $11,590 loss. Total amount recovered was $B,llO. Fourteen vandalism reports were checked involving losses of $544. There were two city ordinance, two missing person, six lost and found, 41 miscellaneous and 22 dog complaints. Under arrests, there were 10 traffic, 16 misdemeanor, two felony, four juvenile and two warning. No parking tickets were issued. Total mileage of the department was 3,941. Regular officer overtime totaled 31 hours. Reserve officers worked 104 hours.
