By KELLI PRICE The Wawasee boys’ tennis team played three matches last week. They were defeated by Warsaw and Plymouth in two of their three matches but they claimed a victory from the Northridge Raiders last Wednesday. On Tuesday Wawasee took on Warsaw at the Tiger courts. The Warriors were defeated 5-0 by the Warsaw team. Greg Carpenter lost to Mike Kachlik 6-0 6-0, and Warsaw’s Greg Sasso dittoed the scored over number two Warrior Rod Hamman. John Locke lost at number three to Russ Baldwin with scores of 6-4 6-2. In doubles Logan Jones and Gregg Gant were aced at number one 6-0 6-0 by the Brent Faudree-Scott Wiley team. The junior varsity sidestepped another Warsaw clean sweep by scoring one match to their seven. John Pifer and Garth McClain vs Scott Tucker and Andy Razor 0-8 Second Victory Wednesday’s match was the second victory for the Warriors this season. They played Northridge at home and won the match 4-1. At number one singles Greg Carpenter won 6-4 7-6, defeating Tim Gunderman. Rod Hamman beat Ron Miller 6-2 6-2. And at number three singles John Locke won with scores of 6-2 6-4 over Jim Snowden. Number two doubles team Mike Brannock and Dee Hinesley defeated their opponents Dennis Graber and Kevin Smith 7-6 6-2. The only Warrior loss was a close number one doubles match. Warriors Logan Jones and Gregg Gant were defeated in three sets by Mike Hatfield and Dave
Mickler with scores of 6-4 2-6 6-4. Three JV matches were played with Wawasee winning two and Northridge claiming one. Ron Cripe beat Cletis Miller 6-4 7-6, Darle Hoover lost to Greg Eash 64 6-2, and Arto Nummila won his match 6-0 6-4 over Dave Falb. Wawasee accepted another defeat on Thursday as they traveled to Plymouth and were beaten 4-1. At number one Barry Peterson beat Warrior Greg Carpenter 6-0 6-2. Rod Hamman was defeated by Jerry Menser 6-0 6-2, and John Locke brought in the only Warrior win beating Scott Taylor 6-22-66-4. Logan Jones and Gregg Gant lost a three set match to Dave Duell and Tony Stewart 7-6 0-6 63. At number two doubles the Dee Hinesley-Mike Brannock team was defeated 6-3 6-1 by Paul Wiktorsson and Steve Guild. The JV Warrior team lost their match 6-2. Scores for the reserve match were: Ron Cripe vs Steve Miller 4-8 Darle Hoover vs Pat Pesch 4-8 Brian Gannock vs Matt Leachman 2-8 Arto Nummila vs Kevin Heisler 8-2 Mike Nordin vs Scott Knepper 5-8 Steve Koble vs Jeff Meister 9-7 Dave Coy and Tom Troup vs Steve Miller and Matt Leachman 4-8 Vince Price and Tim Hubartt vs Pat Pesch and Steve Guild 0-8 These matches bring Wawasee’s record to 2-8 varsity and 2-8 JV. The conference record is 0-6. The next match will be played September 19 at home against Bremen and September 20 Will see the Warriors take on Culver Military at home. Matches start at 4:15. AT MAXWELTON Wednesday, Sept. 13, was “Ole Timers Day” at Maxwelton for all the ladies who have played the course and who do now. This special tourney is held rain or shine. First Best Ball winners was the team of June Auer, Irma Mishler, Lila Cripe and Elseyna Hart. Second team, Gloria Stoffel, Izzy Kilmer, Ruth George and Mary Wilhelm. Low Gross was held by Pat Winters; low putts, Alice Herbison and Janet Hays. The Polly Voorhees Memorial was won by Maxine Collins. The golf was followed by luncheon, cards and visiting. Any lady with an established handicap wishing to play in the. Ladies Mixed Scramble should contact Maxwelton or South Shore golf course. Leesburg youth arrested for theft A Leesburg youth was arrested September 13 by Kosciusko County police, charged with stealing an eight-track tape player and two speakers from the auto of Lynn Susan, 17, r 2 North Webster, at Blacks Trailer Court near North Webster. Larry Michael Stauffer, 19, r 1, Leesburg, was arrested on a county court warrant for conversion (class A misdemeanor). The theft was on September 1. The Susan auto was parked in front of the Sandra Menzie trailer at the court. Stauffer was released on SSOO bond. Also arrested the night of September 13 was Robert Karl Waugh, 20, r 2 North Webster, who was sentenced in Kosciusko County court to serve 10 days at the county jail. He was jailed on charges of illegal possession and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage. Richard Allen Bell, 28, of 218 W. Portland St., Syracuse, was released on S2OO bond following his arrest for criminal mischief (class B misdemeanor). A 14-year-old Syracuse girl was held on a runaway charge, on the authority of probation officials.
