'Open Channels' theme for WCTU state confab

“Open Channels” will be the theme, this year, for the 104th annual Woman’s Christian Temperance Union State convention to be held in Kokomo, Tuesday, Sept. 26, through the 28th in the Morning Star House of the Lord, 2900 E. Markland Avenue. Registration begins at 12:30. From 2-3, Miss Frances Bateman from WCTU headquarters in Evanston, 111., and National Executive Secretary of the Loyal Temperance Legion will instruct the Pre-Convention School. A reception; in her honor, will follow. The official board and executive committee will meet at 3. The convention begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with “Youth Night”. Youth worker Steven Cole will deliver the evening address. The annual awards will be presented to youth groups who have excelled during the year by Mrs. James Shelly, New Castle, executive secretary of the Youth Temperance Council. Wednesday’s program begins at 8:15 with the Morning Watch followed by a Rememberance Service where the memorial candle is lighted to burn throughout the convention. A security guard, assigned to the factory of Barth Incorporated, located south of Milford on SR 15, and his brother were arrested by police Friday moming, Sept. 15, for the theft of radios taken earlier in the week from the plant. The security guard,Terry Lee Newcomer, 22, and his brother, Donald Newcomer, 25, both of r 3 Warsaw, were arrested and booked on a county court warrant for conversion. Donald Newcomer was held on $2,000

bond and Terry Newcomer was released on $2,000 bond. The younger Newcomer was injured September 10 when his motorcycle turned over near the Auer’s Service Station at
