Three Kosciusko County women were among those attending the 16th annual seminar in advanced cosmetology on the campus of Tri-State University in August. Seminar participants received

instruction in new hair and make up hair and clothes coordination, biological hair structure, current fashion trends, color tinting and motivation. Area participants were Ester Long, r 8 Warsaw; Fay Searfoss, Leesburg; and Lois Trowbridge, Etna Green.

Busy Homemakers elect officers for 1979

The Busy Homemakers Club elected officers for 1979 at its meeting on September 6. The new officers are: Mrs. Glen Pinkerton — president Mrs. Verdon May — vice president X Mrs. — treasurer Mrs. William Motts - secretary Anna Cripe — garden lessons Evadean Overholser — health and safety lessons. The club met in the home of Mrs. Alfred Wilson with Mrs. Walter Kasper acting as cohostess. Mrs. Wilson read a poem entitled “Spiritual Vitamins” for meditation and conducted an “A to Z” contest on food facts and fallacies during the social hour. Louise May won a prize for the contest. Clues to living longer was the topic of the health and safety lesson given by Mrs. Irene Hollar. The garden lesson, given by Mrs. Vernon May, was about tomato and vegetable canning. Miss Fae Hollar was a guest at the meeting and 10 members were present. On August 30, the Busy Homemaker’s Club had a family night in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest George. Games and a carry-in supper were part of the evening’s activities.

Denise Darr becomes bride of Mark Grady at New Salem

Denise Darr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Darr of r 2 Syracuse, and Mark Grady, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Grady of r 2 Syracuse, were wed August 12 in the New Salem Church of the Brethren, near Milford. Rev. Irvin Miller, pastor of the church, officiated at the double ring, candlelight service. Soloist Mark Koble sang “Wedding Song,’’ “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The organist was Cindy Rapp. Decorating the church were candles placed by the windows and candelabras ornamented with clusters of daisies and baby breath. The bride was dressed in a gown of polyester chiffon. The bodice featured a high neckline with full lantern sleeves. It was trimmed in Nottingham lace ana seed pearls. The waist was fitted and accented with satin ribbon and a chapel-length train was attached to the skirt. Lace and pearls covered the headpiece. The veil was edged in pearls. A bouquet of pink roses, white daisies, yellow and blue carnations, baby breath and ivy tied with a white satin ribbon was carried by the bride. Doreen Darr, r 2 Syracuse, served her sister as maid of honor. Mrs. Rick Fiechter, r 4 Bluffton, Sherry Myers and Leslie Shenefield, both of Syracuse, were bridesmaids. The four wore high neckline dresses of light blue material embossed with pink, blue and yellow flowers. Each dress had a lace overlay down the front and a ruffle around the bottom. They

Alternate bouquets of pink, blue and yellow carnations accompanied by baby breath and a white ribbon were carried by the bridesmaids. Attending the bridegroom as best man was brother of the bride, Dennis Darr, r 2 Syracuse. Ron Robinson of Syracuse was groomsman. Don Robinson of Syracuse, and brother of the bridegroom, Mike Grady, also of Syracuse, were ushers. The bride’s mother wore a gown of light blue and an ivory gown was worn by the mother of the bridegroom. Both wore corsages of yellow daisies, pink and white carnations. Serving at the reception were Mrs. Wes Bell, Dorothy Mock, Mrs. Mike Grady and Mrs. David Evans. The four-tiered cake, adorned with pink roses and white daisies, was decorated by the bride. A blue water flowing fountain was in the bottom tier of the cake and three heart cakes encircled the cake. A graduate of Wawasee High School, the bride is now a junior at Goshen College where she is majoring in nursing. Also a graduate of Wawasee, the bridegroom is employed as a farmer. The couple spent two weeks in California and now reside at r 2 Syracuse.

Bernadette Caple becomes bride of Steve Lawson

Miss Bernadette Caple daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Caple, r 3 Syracuse, and Steve Lawson, son of Joann Weber of Haggerstown, were married on August 12 in Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Rev. Philip Frew officiated at the double ring ceremony. For the wedding, the bride chose a full-length white gown of white eyelet, with matching hat. Bertha Wehrly, Arthur Gilbert, married Sept. 10 Mrs. Bertha Wehrly and Arthur Gilbert of Milford were united in marriage at the former Wehrly home on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Doyne Click and famfly of Brighton and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gilbert, Jr. and family of North Manchester. Mrs. Click is the former Alyce Wehrly. The service was performed by Rev. Ammon Wenger of North Liberty and Pastor Nelda Rhoades of the Bethel Church of the Brethren in Milford. A dinner was served to the wedding party at a North Webster restaurant following the service. Later in the afternoon a small reception was held in the former Wehrly home where the couple will be living.

She carried a bouquet of white roses and white mums, with baby’s breath. Mrs. Joni Colvin, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Rose Loveless of Kendallville; Sue Greulach of Fort Wayne, and Kathy Krider of Churubusco. Best man was Charlie McClement of Kendallville, and groomsmen were Duane Davis of Meriman, and John Lawson and Tony Lawson, both of Haggerstown. A reception in the Legion hall at Albion followed the ceremony. The bride is a 1975 graduate of Wawasee High School and is employed at Cindy’s Beauty Corner in Albion. Her husband is a 1970 graduate of Central Noble High School, and is employed as a deputy in the Noble County Sheriff’s department.
