THE MAIL-JOURNAL—Wed., September 13,1978

Political potpourri BEGINNING THIS week we will be featuring quotes and comments on persons seeking office. We do so to help our readers decide who they should vote for in the coming election. —o— JIM LOGAN of the American party, delivered 981 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office on August 24 to qualify him for a spot on the ballot for the office of U. S. Representative of the Second District of Indiana. These signatures came from eight of the 14 counties of the district. Logan's news release scores both Oppenheim and Fithian. “Mr. Oppenheim realizes that something is wrong, but he hasn’t realized that half of the problem is the Republican Party. It was the leadership of the Republican Party that promoted the ‘Canal give-a-way’ and it was Republicans that joined the Democrats in voting to give it away.” The release continues, "The constitution says that both houses shall vote on the disposal of any government property. There is a bill in the house to do just that, but it has been ‘pigeon-holed’ in committee. Representative Hansen has filed a petition to bring that bill to the house floor to be voted on, and Jim Logan calls on Mr. Fithian to sign that petition and do his constitutional duty and vote whether he represents the citizens of the second district or the International Bankers.. —O'CLAUDE STAHL, Pierceton, has filed for first district county councilman and Bruce A. Woodward, Warsaw, has filed for fourth district county councilman. Both are Democrats. Stahl will oppose incumbent Larry Teghtmeyer, North Webster and Woodward will face incumbent Eldred Metzger, Sidney. Both are Republicans. —0OTHER FILINGS last week included the following: Thurman E. Rinker, North Webster and Patricia J. Cooper, r 1 Warsaw, Democrat candidates for advisory board of Tippecanoe Township. John W. Moneyheffer, r 2 Leesburg and Donald L. Becky Dunfee suffered a head cut, bruised pelvis, a possible back injury and a possible fracture of her left arm. Also involved was a car driven by Trina Wheeler, 21, LaPorte. According to police the Wheeler car was westboud on US 30 and the Edsall vehicle was northbound attempting to turn into the Center Plaza. Wheeler and two passengers in her auto, Charlotte E. Wiles. 21, and Angela L. Wiles, 2, of LaPorte were treated and released from KCH. Wiles received cuts on her left side of her face and her daughter received cuts to the right cheek and right side. Warsaw Fire Department JAWS unit and Warsaw city police helped County Sheriff John Hammersley and County Police Captain Thomas Kitch on the scene. Damage to the 1977 Edsall auto was set at $2,000 and $650 damage to the Wheeler vehicle.

A Lot Os Support Howard Beemish. board president, said the library has obtained a lot of support from area residents. Mrs. Shock, library aide at North Webster Junior High School, has been going to various organizations the past months generating support. John Kussmaul, Tippecanoe Township trustee, had a few questions concerning funding the library. Robert Reed, town attorney, said the library board must submit a budget request May 1 of each year. He added neither the town or township has i to support the library, if it ’ chooses not to. Reed also said the town and township could withdraw from the joint agreement at any time, but then the library services would be discontinued for that body. Any neighboring township or organization could enter into the agreement for library services, too, he said. Kussmaul signed the contract along with the board.
