Michael Benders to study in France, wed in June
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bender are leaving today (Wednesday, Sept. 6) for France where they will work and study during the 1978-79 school year. Michael Bender and the former Alice Gunden were married on June 17 in the Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount at Elkhart. Ross T. Bender officiated at the double ring ceremony in the presence of 170 guests. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleland Gunden of r 1 Milford. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross T. Bender of 1504 Eighth St., Goshen. Candelabra with daisies decorated the altar. Orlando Schmnidt served as organist. Kay Montgomery was soloist and Jane White was pre-nuptial flutist. Joetta Handrich, Janet Neuenschwander and Amanda Wampler presented a guitar and vocal number. For her wedding, the bride chose a full-length ivory qiana gown with a lace appliqued

Miss Rosemary Gunden of Goshen served as maid of honor Her gown was full-length and was of pale green. She carried white daisies with baby’s breath. Bob Bontrager of Elkhart served as best man. Ross L. Bender, Dave Sutter and Merrill Krabill, all of Goshen; and Steve Birkey of Archbold, Ohio, were ushers. The mothers of the birdal couple each wore white daisies with ivy corsages. A buffet luncheon followed the wedding. It was held in the fellowship rooms at the College Mennonite Church in Goshen. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gunden and Mr. and Mrs. James Barker. Serving were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Short, Lita Horst, Jane Metzler and Deborah Bender. Anne Bender was in charge of the guest book. The bride is a graduate of Wawasee High School and completed her junior year at Goshen College. The bridegroom is a graduate of Goshen High School and completed his junior year at Goshen College. Both plan to continue their studies in France.

Outdoor ceremony unites Krista Stewart, R. A. Lester
An outdoor wedding in Seager Bowl at Oakwood Park, Lake Wawasee, took place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, uniting in marriage Krista Jane Stewart of Columbia, S.C., and Richard A. Lester of Riverdale, Ga. *The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Stewart of Oakwood Park. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Lester Sr., and is employed by the Bowman Trucking Co. of Atlanta, Ga., as a computer programmer. Dr. Ernest E. Lawshe of Epworth Forest officiated at the ceremony. The father of the bride pronounced the benediction. Richard Dick of Syracuse accompanied Greg Stewart, w’ho sang. He is from North Hollywood, Calif., and is the brother of the bride. Afternoon Bridge-O-Rama sets opening luncheon for Sept. 18
The Lakeland Afternoon Bridge-O-Rama will have the opening luncheon at noon on September 18, at the Lancelot Lounge in North Webster. Surprise birthday dinner Thursday A group of her friends surprised Betty Weldy of Goshen and Lake Wawasee with a birthday dinner last Thursday night in the Sleepy Owl Restaurant. She was presented with a birthday cake and a bottle of champagne. Attending the party were Mrs. Weldy’s husband, Everett (Ed) Weldy, also Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hughes, Louie and Pat Hare, Peg Bean and Terry Thompson. Wyant to wed Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Garner, Charleston, W. Va., announce the engagement of their daughter, Betsy, to David L. Wyant. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel L. Wyant, r 4 Syracuse. The bride-elect is a 1978 graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. The prospective bridegroom is also a graduate of Miami University. He now attends the Indiana University Law School, Indianapolis. No date has been set for the wedding.

The Bridge-O-Rama is a community project, with contributions going to worthy civic organizations at the end of the season. Last year’s members will be contacted by the committee in the near future regarding luncheon reservations and schedule of play. , O'Haver descentants meetat Waubee Sixty-one descendants of the late Carl and Pearl O’Haver met Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Waubee Lakeside Pavilion for a carry-in dinner. Games were played and swimming was enjoyed by some, while others spent the day getting re-acquainted. It was decided to have an annual reunion, with a planning committee to be elected each year. The 1979 reunion will be August 26 in the Schrock Pavilion, at Shanklin Park, in Goshen, with Laurel Speicher, Mrs. Douglas Coy, Nancy Coy and Carl O’Haver, Jr., in charge of arrangements. Those planning Sunday’s dinner were Mrs. Ezra (Eloise) Halsey, Mrs. Pat (Laurel) Speicher and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Coy. Misty Martin becomes bride of Barry Allen Coy
Miss Misty Ann Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garry Needier, 707 Pittsburg St., Syracuse, and Larry Martin of Teffran, Iran, became the bride of Barry Alan Coy, son of Mrs. Peggy Coy of 100 Wood St., Syracuse, at 7 p.m. August 6. The double ring candlelight ceremony took place at Foster Chapel in Bourbon, with Rev. Louis Stull of Warsaw officiating. The altar was decorated with white globed candelabra, blue carnations, white daisies, and white carnations with baby’s breath. The pew bows were baby blue. The musician was Miss Beckey Hensler of South Bend, playing “Feelings”; “We’ve Only Just Begun”, and the Wedding March. The bride was given in marriage by her grandfather, Paul Kinney of Hardy, Ark. She wore a floor-length bouffant gown of white layered ruffled Chantilly lace, with tapered long sleeves and a Chaplet train. Her matching finger tip veil was trimmed with Chantilly lace. She carried a crescent styled arrangement of white sweetheart roses, blue carnations, baby’s breath and blue and ivory streamers. The maid of honor was Miss Penny Gard of Bourbon. Bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters, Miss Christine and Miss Robin Martin, both of Syracuse. Darlene Hunicutt of Bluffton was the flower girl and Jeremy Hepler of Bourbon, the ringbearer. All the attendants wore floorlength dresses of baby blue knit, made sleeveless, with matching cape. Their white picture hats were trimmed in blue ribbon with flowers matching their bouquets, with blue streamers. They carried cascades of blue carnations, white daisies, baby’s breath, with blue streamers. Best man was Orda Raines of Syracuse. Groomsmen were Nate Thomas and Jerry Strausa, and ushers were Dave Galloway and Chris Scarbeary, all of Syracuse. The bride’s mother wore a floor-length light blue dress with matching blue picture hat. The bridegroom’s mother wore a floor-length white gown with blue and yellow hand-painted flowers. Both had hand corsages of baby’s breath, blue carnations and white sweetheart roses. A reception in the church followed the ceremony. Servers Elder, Rosner to be installed The Kosciusko County chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, will hold its installation of officers Thursday, Sept. 7, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lucky Steer restaurant, Warsaw. Carol Elder, Elder Real Estate, Syracuse and Dannette Rosner, Tiffany Ltd., Syracuse, will be installed as president and secretary-treasurer, respectively. Also to be installed is Cheri A. Kline of Landmark Real Estate, Warsaw, as vicepresident. Pat Peneck of Kokomo will install the officers.

Opening the gifts was Mrs. Devon Hepler of Bourbon. The four-tiered wedding cake was white, trimmed in blue with white daisies and bells, a small fountain and flowers. The cake was in charge of Mrs. Lonnie Coffin of North Webster. The couple is residing on Morrison Island, r 2 Syracuse. The bride attended Highland High School, Hardy, Ark., where she was a member of the Explorer club, FHA, was in cheerleading and teachers assistant. She is employed at Lakeland Motors. Her husband attended Wawasee High School, participating in basketball, baseball, auto mechanics and football, and served in the U. S. Army. He is employed as a mechanic at Leisure Time, Nappanee.
