motorcycle accident. The Syracuse EMS responded to the call with the Milford EMS crew transporting the patient to KCH at Warsaw for emergency room treatment. Syracuse EMS Syracuse EMS were summoned at 4:03 a m. Friday, Aug. 25, to r 4 Syracuse, where Emil Deister, 74, of 2606 East Dr.. Fort Wayne, was complaining of irregular heartbeats and pain in both shoulders. It was learned the patient has an “atomic ’ pacemaker in place since December of 1973. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne in the Syracuse ambulance. At 10:27 am. last Friday crewmen were called to the home of Lamar Stoops. 72. 88 E. Shore Dr., where he was suffering pain in his left hip and leg due to lifting of heavy objects the night before. He was taken to Elkhart Hospital in the ambulance. John Sudlow, 68, r 3 Syracuse, became ill with severe pain in his lower right side Friday afternoon and was taken to Elkhart Hospital in the Syracuse ambulance. Crewmen said it was a possible kidney stone attack. Ed Newhard. 47, r 1 box 925 Cromwell, suffered a nose injury at 5:11 p.m. Friday at the Wawasee golf course. Crewmen, who took Newhard to Goshen Hospital, said he was driving past the golf course when he got hit in the nose with a golf ball. Syracuse EMS were called at 7:39 p.m. Friday to 718 Pittsburgh St. where Dixie Dorscher, 22, had become ill. She was taken to Goshen Hospital. Fred C. Dust Jr.. 76, of r 4 box 70 Syracuse. waS injured at 7:14 p.m. Sunday, when a saw rolled out of a cabinet and struck him on the head Syracuse crewmen applied a pressure bandage to the half inch laceration on top of his head and transported him to Goshen Hospital. At 9:37 p.m. Sunday crewmen were called to r 3 box 414 Marineland Gardens, Syracuse, where Cuong Reed. six. had problems breathing. He was taken to Goshen Hospital. Syracuse EMS were summoned at 6:09a.m. Monday tor 3 box 373 Syracuse, where Lawrence Clay, 77, was suffering chest pains and having difficulty breathing. Crewmen got the information from Cromwell EMS and the patient’s wife and transported the patient to Kosciusko Community Hospital. Lulu Francis. 84. 400 S. Huntington St.. Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital at 12:11 p.m. Monday by the Syracuse ambulance after becoming ill in her home, | At 7:30 p.m. Monday, crewmen were called to the Carol Miller residence in Wawasee Heights where J. R Noel, nine, of r 3 box 626A Syracuse, had fallen off his bike in the Miller driveway, hitting his chin on the pavement. He also sustained an abrasion to his left elbow. Crewmen cleaned and dressed the abrasions and advised the babysitter to take the child to the hospital. Her mother.
Karen Larimer, was notified at work. Carol Evans, four, 801 S. 7th St., Syracuse, was brought to the station at 7:30 p.m. Monday by her mother. Carolyn Evans, after the child had put a small object in her right nostril. Crewmen could not remove and advised mother to take her to Goshen Hospital. Everett Welty, 56, r 2 box 56 Syracuse, came to the fire station early Tuesday after his motorcycle hit a ground hog and dumped on the pavement. He had already been given treatment by Sea Nymph employees. Syracuse EMS dressed the chin wound. He also had knee abrasions. Syracuse ambulance crewmen were called at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday to r 5 box 229 Syracuse, where Jerry E Dain, 88, became ill. Crewmen said the patient was not breathing when they arrived They started CPR treatment and continued until relieved by staff at Kosciusko Community Hospital. Crewmen said the patient is from Florida and was staying with relatives. Births JUSTICE infant Mr. and Mrs. Sherrill D. Dean R. Marvel Nov. 23. 1917 — Aug. 24.1978 Dean R. Marvel, 60, 601 S. Madison St., Nappanee, brother of Eugene Marvel of Leesburg, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in South Bend Memorial Hospital soon after he had been admitted. His health had been failing for the past eight months. He was born in Leesburg November 23, 1917, to Everett and Edna (Rosbrugh) Marvel and married Vivian Willodean Huffman, August 6, 1964. She survives. He had lived at North Manchester before moving to Nappanee. Marvel was an army veteran of World War II and a member of Company L. 38th Division, Warsaw. He was formerly employed by the Mutschler Brothers and Heckaman Manufacturing Company at Nappanee. Also surviving besides his wife and brother, are three sons: James Robert. Chesterton, Joe and Tom both of Nappanee; four daughters, Jean Marvel, Logansport, Mrs. Curtis Campbell, Warsaw, Mrs. Keith Adams, Goshen and Melissa Ann Marvel, at home; eight grandchildren; another brother, Joe, Warsaw; and five sisters, Mrs. Earl Smith, Chicago, Mrs Vern Garman, Elkhart, Mrs. Robert Stillson, Edwardsburg, Mich., Mrs. Edward Smith, Peru and Mrs. Earl Plotner, Warsaw. Services were held Monday, Aug. 28, in the Wright-Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Rev. William Hunter, pastor of the Nappanee Church of the Nazarene, officiated and burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. The Warsaw American Legion Post 49 conducted the graveside military honors. Ralph Iden June 3,1911 —Aug. 27,1978 Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the Ulrey Funeral Home, Cromwell, for Ralph Iden, 67, r 1 Cromwell, father of Arthur Iden and brother of James Iden, both of North Webster. Iden died at 10:30 a.m.

William Wood Jr. Dec. 31.1915— Aug. 12.1978 Funeral services will be held on August 14 at Standish, Mich., for William (Bill) Wood, Jr., 63. formerly of the Syracuse community. He passed away at Standish, on Saturday, Aug. 12. A former Navy man, he will be well remembered in the Syracuse community as being associated with the Sargent Hotel oh Lake Wawasee. His wife, the former Hazel Sargent, preceded him in death about three years ago. The couple had operated the resort hotel which was later sold to Eli Lilly as it edged the Lilly property on the west, and was torn down in the late 1950’5. He had a winter home at Saint Cloud, Fla. Mr. Wood is survived by a wife, Sarah, at Standish and one daughter. Interment was at Mikado Township Cemetery, Mikado, Mich. Rev. Paul Greer officiated for the services. Ralph E. His marriage to the former Virginia Rider took place October 26,1946. and she survives. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater and was employed with the county highway department for the past 12 years. Linn was a member of the Pierceton American Legion and a charter member of the South Whitley V.F.W. Also surviving are J one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Patty) Hoover, Claypool; a son, Billy Linn. Bennett Dec. 20, 1892 — Aug. 28. 1978 Mrs. Nellie M. Bennett, 85, r 1 Leesburg, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday in Whitley County Hospital, Columbia City. She was born December 20, 1892 in Whitley County to Elias Schrader and Evelyn Paugh Schrader and had lived in the North Webster area all her life. In 1912, she was married to Orlando Bennett. He died in 1962. She was formerly employed by Western Rubber Co. in Goshen. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Eloise) Guy and Mrs. Walter (Evelyn) Roberts, both of r 1 Leesburg; a son, Ralph (Bud) Bennett of North Webster; six grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Traster and Mrs. Olive Holt, both of Columbia City.
