Children get taste of camp life

A special kind of program took place at Camp Alexander Mack on Waubee Lake Monday and Tuesday. Children who have completed grade three were given a chance to see what church camp is like. The program, called Camp for Beginners, gives the children a taste of camp life without getting homesick. An overnight stay is planned with a variety of camp activities scheduled. Frankie Copeland, who organized the camp, said, “ It gives them a sample of what a whole week at camp is like. It's just a mini-camp. It gives them a taste of what they would be doing in junior camp, only on a small scale." Many Activities Some of the activities children participated in during the two days included: boating, swimming, crafts, Bible study, discussion and games. Vespers and a camp fire filled the evening hours while a morning watch was held Tuesday. The children also got a chance to tour the camp and find out a brief history of it. Approximately 65 children from the northern district of Brethren churches attended. This is_ the second year for the carpfx Last year, 50 came. A representative from each church also came with the children to act as a leader. Mrs. Copeland and other camp help acted as overall leaders. The theme of the camp was "Let's Get Acquainted." Children spent most of the time meeting other children and getting acquainted with Camp Mack. Mrs. Copeland said Camp for Beginners is a very successful program. "It's fun to see them have a good time," she said, "I love Camp Mack and kids." Arden K. Bell, camp director, agrees with Mrs. Copeland. He commented, "The excitement in kids is tremendous. I think the kids put in an awful lot in a short period." He added, "It's another aspect to our camping program. I think it will help homesickness for our first year campers who come here for a

country are gearing towards the younger and older citizens. He said, "Camp used to be for children. More camps are reaching down to the third grade level and to the senior citizen level." Last year, a lady who was over 90 years of age came to Camp Mack for a seasoned citizens camp. Camp Is Busy Place Camp Mack has become a busy place year-round. Many retreats are scheduled during the winter months as well as summer. A few of the upcoming activities at Camp Mack include: family colony camp, August 25-27; all state family camp, September 1-4; and an all state seasoned citizens camp, September 24-27. Camp Mack is a Church of the Brethren camp and serves the northern district and south districts of the church. It is also available to other denominations and groups.

If There Is No Church Os Your Choice, Find One Qlflou are repeatedly urged, with many compelling arguments, to attend the Church of your choice. However, like many others, you may never have had occasion to make that choice; for a variety of reasons. Perhaps your parents were of different faiths, an increasingly common occurrence; or else they somehow drifted away from any close religious ties and did not find room in their lives for Church attendance, or Sunday school for their children. Nevertheless, it’s not too late’ Find the Church directory in this newspaper or your telephone book and, beginning next Sunday, go to a different Church each week until you find one that’s right for you.
