tractor accident some time ago and had a long hospital stay as the result of a leg injury. He’s home now and completing his recovery there. —o— HARRY ORN related Sunday night how busy he had been the past few days — Many members of the Orn family went to Indianapolis on Friday to see their mother, Mrs. Amos (Mary) Orn participate in the Senior Citizens queen contest. They arrived home in the early morning hours Saturday. After what must have seemed
a short night, Harry was up and off to attend the weekly prayer breakfast at the Christian Church where he was the morning’s speaker. Sunday he attended the 65th annual Orn reunion and then delivered the evening message at the Christian Church, bringing with him a number of members from the Orn clan to hear his sermon. Harry and his family returned this week to Arizona where he a Christian Church minister in Tucson. —o— ON A trip to Nappanee this week we chanced to pass the Frank Grove house on SR 19 south of town. Young Todd Grove was on the family’s paved drive with basketball in hand. Todd, an outstanding basketball player for the Panthers, is seen by many during the summer as he practices his skills. The Grove family formerly lived in Milford. Todd’s grandmother, Mrs. Elaine Hall, is still a resident of Our Town and as you might guess, she is proud of Todd and of all his brothers too. , —o— DON’T FORGET the CPR course planned by MAD for
August 28 and 29 in the Apostolic Christian Church’s fellowship hall. Persons wanting more information should contact Kerry Price or Bruce Bultemeier. —o—- / IS EVERYONE ready? The Wawasee—Warsaw football game will be played on the Warrior field this Friday night. Fans on hand for the Jamboree last Friday noted marked improvement in coach Hal Traviolia's young Warrior team. —o— MR. AND Mrs. Paul Tanner arrived Saturday p.m. for a short visit with relatives here. The couple is from Fort Myers. Fla. Mrs. Tanner is the former Joy Poe of Our Town and is the sister of Mrs. Delbert (Lee) Dippon and Mrs. Wayne (Irene) Bucher. —o— MANY YOUNG people from Our Town have left or will be leaving for colleges and universities across the nation. Sherry Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Young and Roxie Auer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Auer, have both entered Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, 111. Lydia Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Tucker, has entered Memorial School of Nursing in South Bend. Kathi Replogle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Replogle, will return to Milligan College this week end. This time it will be without the company of her sister, Becky, who graduated last spring and will be teaching in the Middlebury schools this fall. — O'NEW POSTMASTER H. C. Colwell has settled in at his new job and is being readily accepted by the members of the com-
munity. —o— MEMBERS OF the First Brethren Church have a new minister — Jeff Carroll. He is the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Teeple of Leesburg, having married the Teeples* daughter, Pam. —O'RICK BROUILLETTE and members of the Christian Church are hard at work getting ready for the kick off of the Wild West program. A staff meeting is set for next W'ednesday night with the kick off set for Wednesday, Sept. 6. —o—- — SPORTS fans in Our Town will be a bit confused next week. The golf season is not over — however, the bowling season is starting. How does one golf at 4 p.m. and bowl at 6:45? It’s possible and our guess is many will try it even though the schedule would be a tight one. —O'SPEAKING OF golf, today is a big day for the Lions of the area as neighboring Syracuse is hosting the annual 25G Lions golf
Generic labeling
By PATRICIA M. BRAMAN Extension Agent, Home Ec Getting back to basics may mean change in your pockets. After we have been lured by sane, labels with pretty colors, pictures, and recipes, generic labeling is being introduced in our supermarkets. Generic labeling is also called “no-frills,” “no-name.” or plain-wrap." These unadorned items pass on to the consumer what they save in promotion, fancy packaging, and advertising. The main appeal of generic labeled products seems to be savings which vary from item to item. But the savings may be as much as 30 per cent. Truck missing Melvin J. Slabaugh, 306 E. Boston St., reported to Syracuse police that he parked the company truck, a 1970 red A* ton pickup, in front of the Sportsman’s Bar at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. When he returned at 11:45 p.m., the truck was gone. It belonged to the Al Construction Co. of Nappanee, owned by Slabaugh and Vernon Burkholder. The vehicle was located later at the home of Burkholder. 62 traffic arrests The Kosciusko County Sheriff ’s Department’s activity report for the month of July has been release by John E. Hammersley. In accident damage, $109,752 has been estimated with $4,710 in property damages leaving a total of $114,462 in vehicle damages. Accidents occurred during the day light hours were 49 with only 21 at night, no accidents were reported for the dusk or dawn period. A total of 138 bookings were made in the Kosciusko County jail. The sheriff’s department made 73 while the state police / booked two and the other county departments booked 63. In a breakdown of the 138 bookings, 17 juvenile boys, eight juvenile girls, 103 men and 10 women were jailed. Investigations by the county sheriff’s department included: 12 burglaries, 24 thefts, 19 vandalisms, six battery and two suicides. A figure of $17,418 is listed for property stolen and of that amount, $8,450 has been recovered.

outing. Lions from a sevencounty area, including Kosciusko Co., are at Syracuse for the annual event. The Lions from Syracuse are the official hosts with help from past district governor Alex Miller of Warsaw. Miller is the man responsible for starting the tournament. A number of Milford Lions are participating. —oCONGRATULATIONS GO to John Replogle for a job well done. John has coached the Wawasee High School girls softball team for the past four years. He hung up his spikes this past week. John is quick to say, however, that his retirement will not be the end of girls softball at WHS. The team is already entered in the women’s league competition at Goshen for the 1979 season. John is beaming over the fact that three former team members — Tammy Schumn, Phyllis Horvath and Betsy Williams — are members of the Indiana state championship team this year. —o—
One version of a generic labeled product has a simple onecolor label bearing only the name, description of contents, name of processor or retailer, and the net weight. It bears no brand name. The products are standard grade — not fancy or choice. Therefore, the quality may not be consistent in size, color, and maturity. You may buy an acceptable product one time and find it not as good the next time purchased. Although the, quality may not be as good as fancy or choice products, generic labeled products are as wholesome and nutritious as fancy grade A. Most of the generic products offered are items in high demand; beans, applesauce, corn, rice, peanut butter, paper towels, facial tissues, and aluminum foil. In these days of rising inflation, consumers are increasingly concerned about the family food bill. Cutting corners on quality can help lower costs as well as eliminating costly packaging and extensive advertising.
