VFW Auxiliary names officers, committees
The meeting of the Lakeland VFW Ladies Auxilary, number 1342, Syracuse, was called to order by president Ethel Barnett, at 1 p.m. August 12. General business of the day was filling the seats of two resigned officers. President Barnett read her list of officers and chairmen. The meeting was closed in the usual manner. The Oldest Police Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, claims to have the oldest police force in continuous existence in the world. It is made up of the High Constables of the Palace of Holy roodhouse, the Queen’s official residence when she is in Scotland.

Leesburg, plan to help celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of their parents with an open house at the Goon home in Clunette on Sunday, Sept. 3, from 2 tos p.m. All neighbors, friends and relatives are invited to attend. They request gifts be omitted. Goon and the former Miss Nina May Long were married August 31. 1918 by Rev. Jacob Hildrebrand in the North Liberty Church of the Brethren. They are the parents of six children. Mrs. William (Vivian) Kern of Syracuse; Gahlon of Anita. Iowa; Dale of Fort Wayne; Junior of Leesburg; Donald of Atwood, and Darold (Joe), deceased, whose wife Sandy and two daughters live in Ozark. Ala. The Goons have 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Figert, 521 State Street, Wabash. Miss Pepper is an alumna of Eastwood High School, El Paso, Texas, and attended Goshen College. She is employed by a restaurant in El Paso. Her fiance, a Wabash High School graduate, is employed by the Indiana State Highway, Goshen subdistrict unit 1. hostess was Mrs. Emra Stookey. The table grace was given by Fay Hollar. After the supper a short business meeting was held. Information was read to the group about the Homemakers Camp at Camp Mack, Milford, September 18 and 19. Also plans were made for the group trip to Frankenmuth, Mich., October 10. Mrs. Don Bodds, vice president, was in charge of the meeting. After the meeting games were played with each receiving a prize. Thirteen members and nine guests attended the meeting. The next meeting will be September 20 at 7 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Chester Albert. Miss Sharp, Capt. Stanley plan wedding The engagement of Pennilynn Sharp of 3969 W. Delta Dr., No. S’, Marion, to Captain Edward J. Stanley, Jr., U. S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif., has been announced. Miss Sharp is the daughter of Mrs. Donald E. Sharp, r 2 lot 25 Hideway Hills, Warsaw, and the late Mr. Sharp. Her fiance is the son of Mrs. Edward J. Stanley, Sr., 4537 Braniff Circle, Chantilly, Va„ and the late Mr. Stanley. The bride-elect is a graduate of Wawasee High School and attended Ball State University. She is director of emergency services, Grant County Chapter, American Red Cross, Marion. Capt. Stanley holds a BS in math from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. The couple is planning a September 30 wedding in the First United Methodist Church at Marion.

Viola Richcreek was the hostess for the Efficient Homemakers Club in her Barbee Lake home on August 17. Cohostess was Margaret Teghtmeyer. Guests included Janet Wall, Mae Webber. Ruth Shephard. Ed has enrolled at the Florida Bible College, Hollywood, Fla., for the fall term. Dennis Shively, Ron and Randy Wildman and Lorraine Meek assisted Mr. and Mrs. Peter Durik last Tuesday evening. Mrs. Brian Wall, secretary of the Kosciusko County Diabetes Society showed the film “Diabetes, The Hidden Disease,” and her daughter, Janet, gave a 4-H demonstration, “Basic Facts About Diabetes and What It Is.” Plans were made for the combined meeting with the Charm and Chatter Club and the Backwater Friends Club in October at Camelot Hall in North Webster. A donation to the North Webster EMS was made by the club. Mrs. Wall won the door prize. The next meeting will be held in the home of Hannah Payne on September 21.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Meek and Sharon spent the week end in southern Indiana sightseeing. Miss Donna Moser and Misses Virginia and Maggie Clapton of Goshen spent the week end sightseeing in Connersville and other places of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Darr and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Darr attended the Coy Reunion held at Rogers Park in Goshen. Mr. and Mrs. John Plank; Mr. and Mrs. John Bickel, Goshen; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mishler, Shipshewanna; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Yoder, Syracuse attended the Egli Reunion held over the week end at Conneaut Lake. Pa. Jack Teeple returned Monday from Oxford University in England where he had been studying. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lehman of Leesburg spent last week in Portland, Oreg., where Mr Lehman attended school in relation to his work. Sunday dinner guests of Rev. and Mrs. Howard Kreider were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Teeple. Ebenezer Ladiel meet at Thomases The Ebenezer Ladies' Aid met in the home of Mrs. Edna Thomas on Thursday, Aug. 17. Mrs. Wilma Beck, vice president, had charge of the meeting, and she read several poems. There were 10 members present. Mrsv-Mary B. Miller gave the devotions, and Mrs. Thomas closed them with prayer. The September meeting will be in the home of Mrs. Izel Beck. Mrs. Pauline Fawley assisted the hostess in serving refreshments. LAKELAND LOCAL Mrs. Dorothy Kitson of r 4 Syracuse, Miss Linda Simon of Syracuse, Mrs. Lois Gilbert and Miss Sharon Gilbert, both of r 1 Milford, spent the week end in Jeffersonville-Clarksville area. Saturday evening they went to a dinner playhouse which starred Robert Cummings. They toured Churchill Downs gardens and museum at Louisville, Ky., on Sunday.
