Brian. 16. left, showed the reserve champion Angus heifer at the fair. His 1.125 pound steer was sold to the State Bank of Syracuse. David. 13. center, showed the champion Angus heifer, and his 1.640 pound steer was sold to the Leesburg Grain Elevator at the auction. Todd. 10. right, sold his 1.020 pound steer tn the State Bank of Syracuse.

Christmas in August

A Christmas in August party was held August 16 at a local restaurant by members of Tippecanoe Township extension homemakers club. Members of the planning committee were: Nema Collins, chairman; Edna Lawson, Margaret Welker, Mildred Brady, and Debbie Beltcher. Others assisting were Kathleen Weghorst and Goldie Hunnicutt. A small, decorated Christmas tree was surrounded by Christmas gifts. Each dining table was highlighted by a Mr. and Mrs. Snowman centerpiece. Red felt Santa faces served as individual favors and napkin holders. The officers table centerpiece featured two green glass candle cups in a black wrought iron planter filled with holly and poinsettas. Figures of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus stood at each end of the planter. They were attired in red velvet with white fur accents. There were 31 present for the party. Barbara Herrick, Columbia City, was a guest.

The noon blessing was asked by Mrs. Collins. The Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. Following dinner games were played and gifts exchanged. Group singing of Christmas songs was led by Lucille Hobell with Mabie Gee at the organ. “Happy Birthday” was sung to Ida Hart and Clare Broderick. Readings entitled, “Dot’s Christmas”, “The Night Before Christmas” and “Old Time Facilities” were presented by Mrs. Weghorst. Tickets for the upcoming theater party were distributed. An auction of Christmas tree ornaments was held with Mrs. Brady as auctioneer. A report of the recent club sponsored nursing home project was given by Ruth Mickley. It was announced that the Hobby Club meeting will be held August 30 in the home of Mrs. Hunnicutt. The September meeting will be held in the home of Ruth Boyer, Leesburg. COMMUNITY NEWS Barbara Herrick, Columbia City, spent several days last week visiting with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gee, Barbee Lakes. Mildred Brady, Indianapolis, was a recent overnight guest in the home of Goldie Hunnicutt. North Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Koenigshof and daughters, Pierceton, have just returned home from a vacation trip to Michigan. Margaret Welker, Huntington, is spending a couple of weeks visiting with friends and relatives in the Barbee Lakes area. North Webster United Methodist Church UMW executive committee members will meet at 7:30 p.m., September 7, in the church fellowship room.

Lorena Crow becomes bride of David A. Richards, Jr.

Lorena Ann Crow, Springport, and David A. Richards, Jr., Pierceton, were married August 12 in the Barbee Community Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Crowe, Springport. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. David A. Richards, Sr., Pierceton. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Bryce Foster before an altar decorated with candleabra. Bridal music was provided by Lisa Hasse at the organ. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a Grecian style, sleeveless, floorlength gown of off white lace and nylon jersey. It featured a wide collared lace capelet shawl that tapered to a point in back and empire waistline with softlypleated skirt. She wore blue sapphire jewelry and carried a bouquet of red silk roses with lace streamers. Sandy Jones, Warsaw, was matron of honor. She wore a light blue gown. It was styled with white lace accents at the neckline and on the wide ruffle at the hem of her floor-length skirt. She carried a floral arrangement of white silk roses. Charles Kruger, North Webster, was best man. Brothers of the bride and bridegroom served as ushers. The bride’s mother wore a blue street-length dress with gathered neckline. Mother of the bridegroom was attired in a red street length dress with elbowlength sleeves. Both mothers wore corsages of blue and white carnations.

Immediately following the wedding ceremony a reception was held at Barbee Conservation Club Building. The serving table was decorated in a pink, yellow, and white color scheme. The threetiered wedding cake was adorned with red roses and topped by the figures of a miniature bride and bridegroom in a lattice style platform. The bride graduated from Springport High School. She is employed at Heater Inc., North Webster. The bridegroom graduated from Wawasee High School. He is employed at Armstrong Products, Warsaw. Following a short wedding trip the couple will reside at North Webster. Snowmobile outing set Lakeland Snou-mobile Club members are sponsoring a wiener roast on September 9. A ride on the Dixie Boat is also planned. The event is open to anyone interested in the Snowmobile Club. Further information may be obtained by calling Richard Mitchell. Tippecanoe property owners hold dinner-dance

Over 230 Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners members and guests attended a dinner-dance held on Friday evening at the Lake Tippecanoe Country Club. This is the annual affair which Children's show set for Saturday On Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Enchanted Hills Playhouse will be visited by one beautiful lady, one wicked witch, one handsome prince and seven odd little men. Who are they? They are "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, so come to he Playhouse Saturday and visit with them. Reservations will be accepted between 9 a m. and 6 p.m.

Okla., spent a month visiting in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Richards, Epworth Forest. On August 18 they flew to Charleston, S. C., before leaving for Augsberg, Germany, where Sgt. Huntington St. at 7:13 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, after a NIPSCo lineman reported smoke on top of the dryer building. The cost of the tickets covers only the large buffet and the other costs come from the association treasury. Marie Kempher, the recently elected president, introduced the other officers of the association: Matt Dalton, Bill Couch and Ed Shaffer, all vice presidents; Arthur Cunningham, treasurer; and Clifford Terry, secretary. She outlined the aims of the association for the coming year and the plans for the women’s auxiliary —a house walk and a decorated float parade for next Fourth of July. The officers of the auxiliary: Judy Paton, president; Edith Carr, vice president; Ann Lynch, treasurer; and Coralee Phillippe, secretary, were introduced. They and the other members of the auxiliary were responsible for gathering over 50 door prizes which were distributed. Sam Dungan, acting as MC, presented trophies for the fishing contest to the winners. The largest fish (a 14 pound, 12 ounce Northern Pike) was caught by Jim Seal. Others receiving a trophy were Hugh Fiandt, John Foschaar, Richard Shoemaker and Marvin Abrell. Rear-end collision at Wawasee H.S. Damage estimated by Syracuse police at $1,700 resulted at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, in the rear end collision of three cars at the Wawasee High School parking lot. Roger Shipley, 16. r 1, Cromwell, was injured in the crash and was taken to Goshen Hospital in the EMS ambulance. Drivers of the three autos were John C. Haffner, 17, r 4 box 240 Syracuse, a 1972 Ford; Rodney A. Chiddister, 16, box 195 Milford; and Craig A. Batchelor, 17, r 1 box 900 Cromwell, a 1978 AMC.

Hoy told the group that the association has arranged for a Coast Guard school to be run next spring on boating safety for those over 12 years old.
