X. vs ith awards given out on Thursday. Aug. 10. Approximately 175Hchildren were treated to cookies and punch as they received their reading card and awards. A total of 270 children enrolled in the program with 245 receiving ribbons for one sticker or more, and 159 receiving certificates for reading 10 or more books. A total of 6,309 books were read for the program which began on June 5. Bonnie Bjella was in charge of the reading club. Assisting in the afternoon activities last week were Celia Beckman. Marilyn Grindle. Denise Bjella and Rhoda Hapner.

His hand shod; when he wrote them j as mine did when I read them.’’ The book is called “Scar Tissue” and the scars are caused by the narrator’s nomadic life during the depression and his intense awareness that his family background is not as stable as that of his friends. It is filled with heart-breaking accounts of the farm life that made the narrator a man with a knack for survival, and one of the most touching of these episodes involves the butchering of his pet calf for food.
