IT n Svracuse Library
Mrs. Rosalyn Jones, librarian at the Syracuse Public Library, is reminding residents of Kosciusko County who are eligible, of the library services for the blind and physically handicapped in Indiana. Available at the Elkhart Public Library, one of five subregional libraries in the state to provide these services, are a variety of “Talking Books”, books and periodicals recorded onto discs playing at 16-% and 8% rpm, and onto cassette tape. The free service providing braille, recorded materials,* and large print is administered by the Indiana State Library Division for the blind and physically handicapped. It is estimated that 79,500 persons in Indiana may be eligible, including an estimated 790 in Kosciusko County. Os this number, over 23,800 have visual handicaps and 55,600 have physical handicaps such as paralysis, missing arms or hands, lack of muscle coordination, or prolonged weakness. From July 1977 to June 1978, over 232,000 items were circulated directly to readers in Indiana. Over 110,000 direct mail magazine issues are sent to readers in Indiana by producers through subscription lists furnished by the division and subregionals. Although the Syracuse library does not directly administer the program, any one interested may contact Mrs. Jones for further information for the free service.
