Another wonderful program
Throughout the summer months there have been pictures in The Mail-Journal of the Little League baseball teams and their coaches and managers, making all of us aware of the fine job these adults are doing with the boys and girls. Teaching them about sportsmanship and keeping their bodies physically fit. We have another wonderful program for the boys and girls here in Milford, at the public library. Miss Grove and Mrs. Brunjes helped all to find enjoyment through reading. This summer, there were over 100 children enrolled in the “Busy Little Bee” reading program. At the end of the program, the children involved were treated to a party consisting of film and cookies and punch. Mrs. Brunjes gives a lot of time and love for the little readers downstairs in the children’s section. There are always books, on display, on several subjects. Something for everyone, whatever their interest might be. She remembers if a certain child has a favorite author or is looking for a particular book. From October thru May, there is a story hour every Saturday afternoon for the boys and girls. Each week, Mrs. Brunjes treats the children to films, stories, LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. James Wolf, Atwood, entertained Tuesday evening at supper for the birthday anniversaries of their daughter Pam, daughter-in-law Nancy Wolf and son-in-law Steve Collins. Others present were Joe Wolf and children, Mrs. Steve Collins, Marvin Klinger, all of Atwood; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Miller, Milford; parents of Mrs. Jim Wolf. Homemade ice cream and decorated birthday cake in honor of all three was served later in the evening.

A special scaup season is to be provided on Lake Michigan. W-18 Falconry — Change reporting period from November 30 to June 30. Allow falconers to take one head of game: rabbit, quail, squirrel, pheasant, per raptor per day from September 1 through February 28; and during regular season, regular bag limits only F-l Seasons, Bag Limits, Size Limits — Legalize musky fishing statewide and establish a 14-inch minimum size limit on largemouth bass in Gibson Lake, Gibson County F-3 Commercial Fishing — Remove shovelnose sturgeon from protected species list and prohibit sport fishing from commercial fishing from charter (sport) fishing boats on Lake Michigan.
games and treats. There’s always something special for each holiday. We are indeed very fortunate to have someone like Mrs. Brunjes, who cares about our children. Thank you Mrs. Brunjes We love you. Mrs. Donald (Monica) Bice and Keith Max Ivans family staying with the Warren Evanses On August 7, at 1:20 p.m., the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Evans and children was destroyed by fire. As of this time the Evans’ are not sure what they are going to do about rebuilding. Mrs. Evans stated they are taking their time deciding and have not made any final decisions. The Evans’ have lived at the corner of First and Maple Streets in Milford since 1967 and over the years have made some changes to the home that was destroyed. Mr. Evans stated that the interior had been completely remodeled by Mr. Evans over the years and he had also put mew siding on the house about two years ago. Commenting about the fire Mrs. Evans said, “We were thankful the kids weren’t there to get hurt. We lost a dog, but you can always get a new dog where as the kids you can’t.” The Evans family is currently staying in the home of Mr. Evans’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Evans of Milford.

Milford's Main Street
OUR PHOTO this week is one we found in the files. It shows the two buildings which were recently demolished when they were stately business houses and when the drug store was flourishing on Main Street. The drug store offered a little of everything and is remembered by a number of Milford’s senior citizens. —o— WE RECEIVED a telephone call from the athletic department of Indiana Central College telling us of two young men from the Lakeland community who will be returning to Central’s football squad this fall. One of the team members is Dave Wollman who has been a starter on the team for the past two years, playing defensive end. The coach we talked to reminded us of the fact Dave holds the national shot put championship. Dave is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wollman of Our Town. The second former Warrior on the team is field goal kicker Ralph Reiff of the North Webster area. —O'neighbors OF Max and Marlene Evans have informed us they have started a savings account at the bank and have cans in the grocery stores so those who want may help the Evanses replace items lost in their fire last week. —oTHIS AVID baseball fan was

She helped hand out prizes given to senior citizens by area merchants on Senior Citizen’s Day. Mary said she was very thankful for the support the Milford merchants gave to the special day and wanted them to know her feelings. When she goes to Indianapolis on Friday for the state senior queen competition Mary will have her own cheering section.
Planning to make the trip with her will be members of her family — Mr. and Mrs. Harry Orn and Brent of Tucson. The Dewarts were in Milford a short time ago and extended their well wishes at that time. Son Darrell will serve as escort during the festivities.
