Merry Maidens attend field trip

By JANET WALL Members of the Milford Junior Merry Maidens 4-H Club attended a field trip August 9. All members who completed 4-H this year were allowed to go. They met at the Milford Christian Church athletic center at 8 a.m. to start their day of touring area businesses and horseback riding. Ice , First they toured an ice factory. Here they learned that the company started in 1935 serving Amish families in the area. They still serve 500 Amish families as well as different stores and companies. They also learned that it takes 48 hours to freeze 1,800 pounds of ice with 27 tons of ice being produced per day, including crushed ice. They get their water to produce the ice out of an 18 inch well which is 500 feet deep. They serve others within a 200-mile radius of their company with 14 trucks and one semi. Horseback Riding Next the club went horseback riding. The members had a really "A man with big ideas is a hard neighbor to live with." Ebner-Eschenbach "When an innovation is very difficult to establish, it is unnecessary." Vauvenargues

away as Houston, Texas and Orlando, Fla., most of their business, however, comes from the midwest. Fast Food The last place toured was a fast food chain. Here they learned how to cook hamburgers so they come out just right and french fries and other foods. They also learned that where the food is kept hot it must be sold in 10 minutes or it is thrown away, insuring fresh food at all times Hamburgers are put on the grill right from the freezer and not thawed first. This also insures the fact they are fresh. By the end of the day the members were bushed but all had had fun.
