Carn and sausage at No. Webster Try to imagine the consumption of 900 pounds of sausage, more than 9.000 ears of corn, and 6,280 cold drinks, all in one day, at one location! These are some of the statistics from the ninth annual sausage and corn roast put on last Saturday on the grass in front of the Counting House Bank in North Webster by the Lakeland Kiwanis Club. The event has been growing in attendance each year, with the result that more than 5,200 meals were served Saturday, as compared to 5,000 last year. It has attracted people from at least four states, with one couple coming from Niles. Mich., for the fourth time in a row; one from Ohio this year; a couple from Evansville who attend every year; and several from Chicago The roast took on an international note this year, with the attendance of John A. Mars, assistant editor of Kiwanis Magazine, circulated in seven countries, and executive editor of Keynoter Magazine, the organization's magazine for youth. International Headquarters of Kiwanis are in Chicago. The sausage and corn roast attracted so many people that at times there were as many as 250 people waiting in a line that wound around the corner. Dave Everts served as general chairman of Saturday's affair, with 84 members of the Lakeland Kiwanis Club, their families, and friends of Kiwanis putting on the feast. Besides the sausage, corn and cold drinks served, says Dick Long, who was in charge of publicity, the club served 300 homemade cakes and pies for dessert. There were 6,280 pounds of trash left in the wake, including corn cobs, paper plates and cups, and other miscellany. The meal includes a sausage sandwich, two ears of corn and a cold drink. Long says. He reported the club is already working on plans for next year's roast, to be held the first Saturday of August. 1979, and hopes to serve more than 6,000.
