excited about going for a number of reasons, the most important being this is the first time their church has participated in the work camp. Linda said, "I just hope I can understand what we've got here that they haven't got. SoM can spread the word of what it's like outside the United States." Julie commented, "It will give me a chance to see if I can help people. There's a need for ifs to go. I believe God's pulling me to go." Hospital Work While in Haiti, all four girls will be working in a children's hospital in the capital city, Porta Prince. At the hospital, they will be doing general work to help out in any way they can. Each girl is also responsible for taking a toy to give to a child. Other standard American items such as Twinkies, animal crackers and Cracker Jack will be taken to give to the Haiti children. For Julie, however, she hopes to take with her a special gift, music. She has a guitar and plans on writing a song while in Haiti in the country's words and tempo. Besides working io the hospital, the girls will have a chance to sightsee and even climb a mountain. They will also have a go at bartering with Ideal peddlers. All four hope to accomplish a great deal while in Haiti. Julie said, "Our way is to keep their chins up. For them to know we care as human beings." Besides Julie, Linda, Lynn and Carla, 23 other
high school age students from the Elkhart district will be going. Rev. and Mrs. Joe Wagoner are in charge of the camp. Julie, who will be a senior at Wawasee High School, has various interests. Some of these include: jogging, playing tennis and associating with all types of people. Linda, , whose interests include swimming, drama, piano and sewing, will be a junior at Wawasee this fall. Both Lynn and Carla will be juniors at Wawasee this coming school year. Lynn enjoys sewing, cooking, swimming and golfing. Tennis, golfing, and reading take up the interests of Carla. Home from work comp Vickie Casey, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Brice Casey of North Webster Church of God, has returned from a work camp in Trinidad, South America. Vickie is a student at Warner Southern College, Lake Wales. Fla., and went to Trinidad with a group of students.

Milford man
learns new culture
Homer Miller, Milford, has just returned from a two-week work crusade for OMS Missions in Ecuador. South America. In talking about his trip, he commented, “I learned a different culture.” Miller went with six other crusaders — one from Indiana, two from Canada, two from Kansas and one from Texas. While there, he helped to build a dormitory and a warehouse using handmade tools and labor. He said, “Everything there is done by hand. We made our own bricks and mixed our own cement.” In the village where he stayed, Pallatonga. there was no electricity and candles were used for lighting. He added there is a great deal of poverty in the country. In the city of Guagaquil. with a million population, about 70 per cent only earn from $3-$5 per day. He said it was not unusual to see a bamboo hut next door to a modern office building.
THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A LITTLE HONESTY f you have gone to great lengths to teach your children to be honest at all times, you are to be commended. However, the most convincing lesson is the example of your own behavior. Do they dry their hands on towels embroidered with the names of famous hotels, Which you took for “souvenirs”? Do they overhear Dad bragging about the way he cheated on his income tax return, or watch Mom displaying an item the cashier forgot to ring up, which she has no intention of paying for? All these things combine to make a mockery of the lesson you tried to‘teach your children. What the whole family needs are some good sessions at the Church of your choice, which will remind each generation that honesty, like perfection, does not come in degrees.

Miller’s main diet while in Ecuador consisted of rice, meat and warm pop. Beans, bananas and chocolate beans are crops grown around the mountains. Oxen and a wooden plow are used. Even though a bit behind times, he commented the people were very warm and friendly. He said “They’re really open. 4 ’ There was a slight communication problem as the native language is Spanish. A few other differences in culture the Milford man noticed were the weather and women He said the temperatures ranged from 60-70 degrees where he was. which was two degrees south of the equator. The women, he said, did a man’s job out in the fields and dressed in long skirts and shawls. Overall, he feels the trip was beneficial. He said, “I’d like to live down there.” Miller, an avid runner, works for The Papers Incorporated.
