Bowen Center needs volunteer drivers

If you drive, have a car and some spare time, you can join in on some rewarding volunteer work. And it’s not really work at all. Over 100 drivers are needed to help transport people to the new Bowen Center in Warsaw. The center serves a five county area, and even in Kosciusko County there is a need for volunteers. The local chapters of the Mental Health Association in each of the five counties have launched a joint effort to organize a volunteer group to serve the center in several capacities. The first project undertaken by the joint committee is to find volunteer drivers. The group hopes to have at least 100 drivers by the end of July, according to Ilene Snider, Kosciusko County volunteer chairman. She said they want to have as many drivers as possible so that they can work when they want to. Drivers could volunteer to drive as little or as much as they want, she added Schedules will be extremely flexible and organized for the drivers’ convenience.

When the Bowen Center moved into its new facilities in April, several new . programs Uere begun. Already established programs were expanded The Mental Health Association hopes to prevent a serious problem by supplying transportation for those who need it. If people in the outlying areas cannot get to the center, then its facilities are not being used to their fullest. Any further expansion of programs could be delayed. Mrs. Snider said the goal of her group is to see that everyone who wants and needs to take part in the center’s programs is given the opportunity. She also noted that as the center s activities do expand more, volunteers will be needed in other areas. Anyone interested in finding out more about the volunteer program for drivers can do so by contacting Mrs. Snider. Jackie Bergen or Roma Maish Information can also be obtained by sending name and address to Volunteers, Mental Health Association, box 822 Warsaw. Ind. 46580
